Some information about Commons policies edit

Hello! First of all, let me thank you for uploading your pictures, which often cover topics for which we have few pictures so far. Since you upload a lot of pictures on Commons, I think it is useful to give you more information about some policies of this website. My remarks about your uploads are the following:

  1. Promotional watermarks are not acceptable, so they can be removed from the pictures you have uploaded so far. You'd better upload pictures without watermark in the future.
  2. Categories are a bit difficult to use, but the basic principle is: files should only be in the most specific category that exists for certain topic. So, for example, you do not have to place a file in category:Myanmar if it is already in category:Mon State.
  3. Private image collections (e.g. pictures of non-notable people) cannot be uploaded on Commons, because they are out of the scope of this website.

Best regards, BrightRaven (talk) 11:39, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your great contributions. Commons don't use a tagging a system; it might be useful to read COM:CAT and more specifically COM:CAT. Adding pictures to Category:Burma, Category:Myanmar and a deeper category makes no sense. You are really flooding Category:Myanmar. --Foroa (talk) 13:34, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
It looks as you don't read or understand what is written here. I'll have to block your uploads if you keep uploading with massive overcategorisation. If you have a problem with English, please tell in what language we could discuss with you. --Foroa (talk) 09:34, 28 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

no watermarks edit

Hi, first i want to thank you for your uploaded files, which are often from areas not in easy reach for most peopen and of good quality. But, please stop integrating visible copyright claims/watermarks into images. As you can read in Commons:Watermarks, wikimedia strongly discourages (i.e. rejects) the use of visible nametags, copyright claims etc. in images. The licensing of an image is always done via the licenses you find in the coresponding file description page, not in the form of visible text inside the picture. The only accepted kind of watermarks inside the picture are invisible ones, this does not mean "very small script" or "blurred out", but really invisible watermarks generated by pixel encoding by special software tools. As wikimedia strongly discourages watermark use, such pictures will be categorized in Category:Images containg watermarks and the watermarks always will be removed by some user, even if this may take some time. This is not always possible without any loss of qualitiy. You certainly will find alot of images still containing watermarks in the commons. But mostly they are imports from flickr ort other sources. So, please do not add name tags in further uploads. Thank you very much for your understanding. - Andy king50 (talk) 14:25, 31 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

@BrightRaven: @Andy king50: . I have worked my way through all promotional Go-Myanmar (.com) files from 2013 to remove the added spam text by cropping. The majority of crops have been non-destructive of the image subject, and a lot have been extra cropped to conform to rule of thirds or to keep the centre point of original images. Nevertherless, a few crops might have trimmed some parts which could be seen to be beneficial to an image, but on balance it's best these parts have been removed to make files more useable. There have been a few removals (by others) of spam text from Go-Myanmar files using repair programs and then re-uploading to maintain the actual dimensions of images, but given the almost 2,000 files with promo text it would be an onerous task to do this with each of them. However, if others want to take the trouble, they can still take any of the original files and blend out the watermark. Acabashi (talk) 12:01, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
