Hello, Haha169!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Re: Pasting new states into world laws map edit

Hey.. I don't mind, though not sure I am the most qualified to be mis-instructing you on this lol. Sorry if I go over a step you already know, but here is how I have been doing it, from start to finish:

  • Open the blank svg map (like File:Blank US Map.svg)
    • In the map editing window, if everything isn't already selected, hit Ctrl+A to select all
    • In Inkscape (if this is what you're using), there is a button on the toolbar to Ungroup objects, click this (you might have to do it 1 or 2 more other times depending on the map you're using, if groups still exist which are keeping you from selecting the state you want)
    • Once everything is ungrouped, select the state you want by clicking on it & Ctrl+C it to the clipboard
  • Open the world laws map:
    • Paste the state in (Ctrl+V)
    • It probably will be way too big and need to be resized: Resize the way you would any graphic, but hold down ctrl while you are doing it to scale horizontal and vertical uniformly.
    • Once you get it down to the right size, you will probably need to skew it to one side to match the other states:
      • If the new state is already selected, click it another time, and the arrows on the corners will change to let you rotate it, and the arrows at the top/bottom/sides will change to let you skew its angle horizontally to match the other states. This is the "fun" part (matching the other states) :-D . Wikignome0529 (talk) 23:56, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
That's weird... I use Ubuntu and had never noticed that, though I almost always open the 2nd file from within the 1st window, so I guess that's why. I posted a message at en:Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/Map workshop#World homosexuality laws.svg map about the world laws map to see if anyone knew of an alternate map to use, or if a more experienced SVG user would be willing to help. Thanks for uploading File:Northern mountains.ogg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.
I don't understand why you haven't tagged all the other songs in the very same soundtrack...but okay. There are no changes needed. Simply navigate to the information box, click the "album link" link, and you will find the appropriate license on the right bar under "Your rights on this album". Besides, Jamendo is all CC. (And there would have been no way this would be a featured sound on the English Wikipedia had it not been under an appropriate license). --Haha169 (talk) 04:23, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Color blindness and this map. edit

Hi Haha169, The map of California showing which counties voted is nice. But there are many people (mostly men) that are color blind and usually red-green color blind. Like me! Personally, I cannot tell the difference in colors on your map! It all looks like one color!!! I can only assume you are using green and red colors??????

Can you modify this map? For instance "yes" equals green and "no" equals yellow?

Thanks for considering this.

LICENSE WRONG. Aleksi Aubry-Carlson https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wesnothmain.ogg edit

Are you sure the license you set is correct? Did Aleksi Aubry-Carlson release it under CC BY-3.0 before joining Sacem? If not, the music is not licensed under CC BY-3.0 but under Sacem, and Sacem only allows Creative Commons licenses with the NC, Non-Commercial clause. The reason I don't believe Aleksi Aubry-Carlson's music was licensed as CC BY-3.0 is because the music was donated to the copyleft game Battle for Wesnoth and that is GPL. Thank you. Logictheo (talk) 15:24, 15:25, 4 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure what Sacem is, but I distinctly recall that it was under CC BY-3.0 (as was all of his other works) when the song was uploaded to the Commons. That was a long time ago, though, so I cannot remember exactly. I may be wrong.--Haha169 (talk) 00:54, 5 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposition 8 map: Solano County edit

Hi, over in Wikipedia, en:Talk:California Proposition 8, a user noted an error on File:CA2008Prop8.svg: "The Prop 8 map on the top of the page incorrectly shows Solano County as having voted against prop 8 when it did vote for prop 8." He's right; Solano County voted 55.9%-44.1% in favor of the proposition; and the map does show it as red (no). Can you correct this?

I'd love to know what you use to produce maps like this, by the way. TJRC (talk) 23:19, 26 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Definitely! You can either get Adobe Illustrator (which costs a bucketload of money), or you can get the free alternative, Inkscape. These programs deal with vector graphics, and are different in many ways from image editing software like Photoshop or Gimp. There's a steep learning curve, but editing maps like these should be easy enough to learn. Good luck! --Haha169 (talk) 00:52, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I've played a little with Inkscape, but never was able to get any traction on it. Where do you get the map to start wit? By the way, I see you uploaded a new copy, but it's bit-for-bit identical to the old copy Solano is still red. TJRC (talk) 01:10, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's been updated. If you're still seeing the old version, try clearing your cache, or "edit" the image page, and in the url, change the &action=edit into &action=purge. To find the base map, run a Google search for Wikipedia vector maps, you should come up with a bunch! Good luck!--Haha169 (talk) 17:22, 6 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yep, it looks like it was my problem, likely the cache. Looks fine now, and it's the same date as the one I downloaded to check, so problem was clearly on my end. Thanks for the update, and the map info. TJRC (talk) 18:29, 6 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

SF Bay Area Transit Map edit

I was looking at this today and noticed that you had the key reversed for ACE and Amtrak.

I just noticed this myself. Also, can you double check the lines for Caltrain? Not sure but the baby bullet may service Gilroy and not local trains since it only goes there during peak hours. Thanks! BT14 (talk) 09:19, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Another piece of feedback on the map (which is very neat!) - the "22nd St Mission" BART station should be labeled as "16th St Mission" --50.0.205.233 22:50, 29 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I fact checked everything so here are somethings I found that might need fixing. (1) eBart has been finished. There is a transfer platform in between Pittsburg/Bay Point and Pittsburg Center that you can't get off at so it is treated as the same line. (2) Berryessa and Alum Rock are now Berryessa/North San José and Alum Rock/28th Street station respectively although the second one is still generally called Alum Rock. (3) The BART stop is called San Bruno and not Tanforan. (4) This is very nit picky but technically, West Dublin is actually West Dublin/Pleasanton. (5) Like the previous one but on VTA, Japantown is officially Japantown/Ayer. (6) The Santa Clara VTA station which is between St. James and Paseo de San Antonio is not on the map. (7) St. James, Santa Clara, and Paseo de San Antonio all are two stations a block a part that have trains going one way. See Template:VTA light rail for what I mean. (8) The Downtown San Jose BART Station is being built under the North and Southbound Santa Clara VTA stations. (9) I-880/Milpitas and Montague VTA stations have not changed there names to Alder and Milpitas respectively. Montague will change its name when BART opens its Milpitas Station (Same location) and I-880/Milpitas was supposed to change to Alder last year but has not yet. (10) There are some VTA extensions that you have not added yet. These are Ocala (between Story Road and Eastridge), Gay Avenue (between McGee and Alum Rock), West San Carlos (between San Jose Diridon and Race), Hacienda (after Winchester), and Vasona (south of Hacienda). (11) The future SMART station North Petaluma which will be between Cotati and Downtown Petaluma is not on the map yet. (12) There are three planned Caltrain stations all south of Gilroy which are Pajaro/Watsonville, Castroville, and Salinas. They are not on your map although they are technically out of the bay area so for clarification purposes you could use an arrow. (13) There are two Caltrain stations that are only operated on weekends that are not on your map being Broadway (between Millbrae and Burlingame) and Atherton (between Redwood City and Menlo Park). These are only operated two days a week so it is your choice on including them or not, but I would include them because you have weekday only stations (everywhere south of Capital and Capital). (14) Again only for completeness sake, but Stanford (between Palo Alto and California Avenue) and College Park (between Santa Clara and San Jose Diridon) are not shown. Stanford only gets service on game days and College Park gets serviced only two times per direction on weekdays and never on holidays. I don't recommend adding it in but if you want to write a note like under the airport stations. (15) On Muni's E and F lines west of Embarcadero, it appears your map has an extra stop. (16) Your map has many problems on the part of the F line east of Embarcadero. It is hard to explain so I recommend looking at Muni maps. (17) There are 3 stops between Church/24th and Church/30th and 1 between Church/30th and San Jose/Randall. Not 2 and 2. (18) The J surface station Church & 14th is shown but not the underground Church Station. (19) There are 4 stations between West Portal and Taraval/22nd Avenue and 4 between Taraval/22nd Avenue and Taraval/Sunset. Not 5 and 5. (20) Between Broad/Plymouth and San Jose/Geneva, there are only 3 stations and not 4. (21) San Jose/Geneva is technically connected to Balboa Park but it is not too important. (22) UCSF Parnassus is actually two separate stations, Irving and 2nd Avenue (outbound) and Irving and Arguello (inbound). This isn't even pointed out on the Muni map and they are often treated as the same stop. (23) The T and by extension K lines are plain out weird. Between Balboa Park and West Portal and 14th Avenue it is K inbound and outbound while between Folsom and Sunnyvale it is T inbound and outbound. But, between West Portal and Embarcadero it is T on the inbound and K on the outbound. You show the plan for 2019 except you correctly have the extension unfinished. I recommend showing the current route and the future one under dotted lines. (24) The future T line will not go threw Powell but through a nearby station called Union Square/Market. (25) The Fisherman's Wharf Stop will not be called that and there might be multiple stops there. See File:Central_Subway_-_Phases_2-4.svg for more information. (26) Fixing Amtrak is hard because all of the lines are grey. I recommend making the lines look different and checking them. Thanks for looking at my suggestions, --Cool314 (talk) 01:43, 12 July 2018 (UTC).Reply

Notification about possible deletion edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

@Truflip99: Thanks for the heads up! I've fixed it --Haha169 (talk) 18:58, 15 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

In March 2023, the Supreme Court of Nepal ordered the Nepali government to legally recognize same-sex marriage.[1] Please update File:Asia homosexuality laws.svg and File:World_homosexuality_laws.svg accordingly. Thanks! Commenter8 (talk) 03:01, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
