Notification about possible deletion edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Loglands Nature Reserve edit

Hello, unsure why you moved the Loglands Nature Reserve images from the dated category of East Riding of Yorkshire to Kingston upon Hull. Most of this is in Wawne and not in Hull, the Geograph images are all wrongly identified as Kingston upon Hull and only the entrance is in Hull. I did change the description to near Hull when I loaded them but left the actual file name as on Geograph. Keith D (talk) 18:32, 13 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

To be quite honest with you, I didn't even know it existed! I just saw 'Hull' and blindly went with it, my apologies. Unfortunately, I can't get an exact bead on the site, as Google Maps is only redirecting me to 'The BBL Nature Reserve'. I'll attest that I've walked as far as the nearby Castle Hill back in 2020, but I wasn't really aware of how close something like this actually was to Hull. Ireland vs Republic of Ireland, again... edit

about this change of yours, please read Commons:Categories for discussion/2021/02/Category:Ireland vs Republic of Ireland category scheme. To my knowledge, no such decision has ever been made, however, I have had to adjust to the use of Republic of Ireland. I assume that with your decision you have displeased more than one user, and if it ever arose from a community decision you should be thoughtful enough to point it out or it could be mistaken for a POV or worse vandalism. Ah, right, I had a feeling I was doing the wrong thing when I was manually changing the descriptions of the categories. Feel free to revert as you wish, although I do feel it is a bit strange to have two parallel Ireland categories that, under Template:World photos (or the equivalent), both refer to it as the "Republic of Ireland" but link to seperate categories. It just feels like there's a lot of room for confusion as opposed to any political reason. Hullian111 (talk) 11:42, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Evidently the issue is more felt by the British, or perhaps even the Irish, who I imagine feel connected both geographically, all Irish, and politically, EIRE and Northern Ireland. IMO here on Commons we should help those seeking to find an image on a territorial basis, or even a historical basis but still taking into account today's reality. For example, me being Italian and having a sufficient historical culture I can also understand that a historical image taken in Trieste, or Bolzano, or Nice, were at the time of the shot respectively in Austria (Empire of), for first two, and in Italy (Kingdom of), but however they are currently in Italy and France, as well as when a new and different territorial subdivision is created that leads us to move the images to a more correct category. No political or historical reasons, that's all. Thank you for the exchange of ideas. :-) Threecharlie (talk) 00:42, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
