Re: Animals of... edit

LOL :) I know how you feel!

Anyway, even if you don't want to help with their project (maybe you already have been without realising), you're more likely to get a good answer from them than the general VP crowd. cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 21:53, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Shall do - I'm just getting up the courage to contact them (this is how it starts...). Many thanks again for the link, which looks invaluable. JackyR 01:06, 31 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Twice25 (it.wiki) edit

For cooking, oder? edit

Hallo, sorry, my english is not so good, I write better in german.

Thanks and here's a gallery link to see edit

Thanks for the prompt response. It appears that the best policy is 'do what is most suitable, convenient and better looking for your info. If you can add real value by captions, use galleries. If you expect lots of images by many diverse contributors, category is the way to go.'

Please see my first gallery at :-

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Bingham%27s_Fauna_of_British_India_%28Butterflies%29

You seem to be in Africa, how about taking some African butterfly photos especially the common ones?

BTW, Nature Loader is a sock puppet account for loading other people's images into WM Commons. I'm AshLin at WP and WM. In WP I'm part of Indian butterflies wiki-endeavour. See some of our articles at :-

Just so you are convinced of our butterfly bonafides :). Please do add the African ones on WM. Thanks once again and happy editing. Regards, Nature Loader 04:00, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wow, thanks. I don't have an eye for image work, so couldn't improve it even if I tried (and I do have Seashore), but I'm thrilled you like it! When I was in professional publishing (editor), one of the designers asked for this for her desktop, so obviously you folks can all see something I can't... :-) JackyR 17:42, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

National Maritime Museum images edit

Most of the National Maritime Museum images are in Public Domain if the author died pre-1936. If the painting comes with an frame, it's copyrighted though. Thanks. Jaranda wat's sup 01:01, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

not Jacaranda edit

Hello, Image:Jacaranda flowers, Bulawayo.jpg is Petrea volubilis, an ornamental vine originating from Latin America. --Franz Xaver 20:12, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi! It's not possible to move images, even for admins. The only possibility is to upload the photo a second time with a better name. (If possible, this should be done be the author.) If you have done this, you may place the template {{badname|Image:xxxx.jpg}} into the wrongly named image, indicating the name of the new upload. The old image will be deleted afterwards. Cheers --Franz Xaver 23:08, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh yes, before deleting the old image, it must be replaced at all places where it is used. Try "CheckUsage". --Franz Xaver 23:10, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Category:California missions edit

I'm not sure what your intent was, but the missions of California are known as the "California missions." I have made the appropriate changes. In the future, I would suggest starting a discussion before making sauch a fundamental change. Evrik 16:55, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd love to discuss cats, but my experience of starting discussions on Commons is that people just don't check here often enough to get a decent discussion - even if one has slogged through putting messages on the pages of all contributors to all of the involved categories, and sometimes even copied them onto people's WP pages in various language WPs. But now you're here... Actually, I'll put all comments at Category talk:Mission stations, to make it more general. JackyR 19:01, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

re: and/or edit

Not sure - I deleted the cat as it was a duplicate of Category:Hospitals or clinics by country, but I guess you're right when you say it could follow the "and" route either. What you could do is propose a namechange on the existing cat? I have no strong opinions on it at all. -- Deadstar (msg) 09:53, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

File:Girton_2.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Gah, sorry, that's a horrible automated template that the "copyvio" button leaves here. Big apologies! I meant entirely that the problem was with the batch upload to enwiki by the original "creator" - nothing to do with you. You just transferred part of the batch over. Is there some way to turn off the stupid talkpage-spamming templates when using the automated deletion process? TheGrappler (talk) 00:39, 29 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Glad I didn't annoy you too much! I'm tempted to do a bit more work at Commons than at WP - this place seems a little less heated and a little more reasonable, in general. Anything you can think of which might need attention? TheGrappler (talk) 15:34, 30 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Notification about possible deletion edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

This media was probably deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Map of the River Thames downstream from London 1840.JPG, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file ([[:File:Map of the River Thames downstream from London 1840.JPG]]).

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!
