The recent DR and other issues edit

Hi Jehochman, I understand when deletion requests upset uploaders and I understand this even more if you obtained a permission from the copyright holder. But please keep in mind that deletion requests can have also a positive effect. As this was now processed through OTRS, I was able to fix the license. While this perhaps looks like a minor issue on first sight, it was in fact of critical importance as it put reusers at risk. The original {{PD-USGov}} tag attached by you put the file into the public domain which allows anyone to use it without attribution. You attributed the copyright holder and the author of that image but your license indicated that reusers do not need to do that. This supports my experience that even in perfectly good-faith uploads that rely on such a permission, it is helpful to get that reviewed through OTRS — four eyes see more than two. The next positive point is that this image is now far more safe than it was before and that this could be clarified while you are still active and able to forward your correspondence. Given all this, I suggest to focus on the positive side of this incident even if this appeared unfortunate at the begin.

I've had a look at the history of your talk page. Please consider that at Commons we do not like to see postings reversed shortly after having seen them. This is considered as rude and will not help you in the interaction with the community at Commons. I suggest to setup an archive either manually or by using User:MiszaBot which can be used as at en-wp.

I hope very much that you will find Commons more welcoming than your first impressions perhaps have been. Please let me know if I can be of any help. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 16:03, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for helping with that image. Back in 2007 the upload process probably wasn't as well developed is it is today. I distinctly remember that when uploading images, the drop down menu choices often did not contain what I wanted, so I had to choose the next best thing. Editors need to be careful when applying today's standards to activities of a few years ago. As for the archive and bot, yes, I know very well how to do that, but did not anticipate being here very much so did not bother. It seems like I probably should. We have far more copyright tags then we could possibly integrate into the drop-down-menu at the upload page which is already split into different variants. An overview can be found in Commons:Copyright tags and most admins would be happy to help in finding the correct license tag. --AFBorchert (talk) 18:25, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Is there a maintenance tag that means "This copyright tag is possibly incorrect, but the image is probably acceptable"? Jehochman (talk) 18:28, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
No, the offically recommended procedure is to go through Commons:Help desk first if the uploader is not sure about the copyright tag. --AFBorchert (talk) 18:59, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

video edit

In accordance to your post "Feel free to speak your mind, especially if remarks are eloquent, insightful, humorous, or sarcastic" I'd like to recommend you this video. In there you will recognize somebody you know rather well. --Mbz1 (talk) 14:18, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

ArchiveBot edit

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1.
