Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. This file is not displaying because its display depends on a reference to a file "StammbaumProgrammiersprachenJohnManuel.png" on your local hard drive. Why not just upload the PNG directly? AnonMoos 02:11, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your abstract line-art images edit

Please try to use specific descriptions and valid specific categories to characterize your images... AnonMoos 06:33, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Though your files may be intended to be instructive in some way, adding broad over-general categories like "Category:Learning" to all your images really does nothing to help appropriately classify them, or help other people to easily find them.
I'm not responsible for either the California tartan .GIF or Echo_exit.PNG -- I reuploaded new versions of them to improve technical aspects of images originally uploaded by others (in the case of Echo_exit.PNG, just to make it clear that an image uploaded by someone else was absolutely blank). Hi JMK,

what is the source of the construction above? I mean where did you learn it or what is its proper name. I also know this type of constructions of reg. polgons, but I am completely unable to find out anything about it. Who invented it? etc.

Muitos thank you!!

Enrico

Hi Enrico: (I also replied to you IP page just in case :))

As far as who invented it, I have no clue, some of these constructions come from very old civilizations, even before the ancients Greeks. My father provided me an old book at a very early age, from which I learned technical drafting and geometric drawing. The sad thing is that I learned very wellthe contents but not the name of the author of the book. You see when you use these constructions, I used only a compass and any rule without measures, the compass did everything. Then I study descriptive Geometry with Nakamura's book published by McGraw Hill, I think. I also remember couple books on the subject of Mechanical Drawing and Technical Drawing, in which their first sections introduce the solution to problems like the division of the line in equal parts or golden means, the construction and replication of angles, triangles and other polygons including the division of the circumference in "n" equal parts. I recommend you to read Technical Drawing by Frederick E. Giesecke (Late Prof. Emeritus Texas A&M Univ.), Alva Mitchel (Late Prof. Emeritus Texas A&M Univ.), Henry Cecil Spencer (Late Prof. Emeritus, Illinois Institute of Technology), & Ivan Leroy Hill (Prof. Illinois Institute of Technology). I worked with the sixth edition of this book published by Macmillan Publishing Co., Inc. New York and Collier Macmillan Publishers London in 1974. Hope, I did help you. I gave you the names of the authors so you can research more about it.

Greetings. -JohnManuel 16:41, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

DocumentObjectModel.svg edit

Hi. I wanted to let you know I've uploaded a new version of Image:DocumentObjectModel.svg, which is now used at en:Document Object Model. I made it solely based off your PNG, before I realized you had uploaded an SVG before. I've been trying to convert PNG diagrams to SVGs lately, where feasible. I looked at your SVG source code, and the reason it didn't render right is that you were using flowed text. This is the default for Inkscape, but it isn't supported by Wikimedia's renderer. In Inkscape, you can convert flowed text to regular text by going to the menu Text, then clicking "Convert to Text". This problem has bitten me repeatedly.

Saludos. Ferbr1 (talk) 13:28, 13 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I see now. The "Kew Gardens" in London is I think the most famous, and the "Category:Kew Gardens" refers to that one. I presume your photo was taken in en:Kew Gardens, Queens. (I notice there is another one in Canada too; Commons has a "Category:Kew Gardens (Toronto)".) I will put the image in "Category:Queens, New York City" for now. If you think we should have a category for the one in New York City too, feel free to create a new category "Kew Gardens, Queens" or something similar and make it a subcategory of "Category:Queens, New York City". Hello, JohnManuel!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

John

I would like to use your image listed at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bloom%27s_Rose.png#filelinks

as part of a book I am writing about education and healing using short stories.

It really is a work of art and an educational stimulus. I cite it under the guidelines may I have your explicit permission to use it. Because this would be used in a printed form I wasn't sure if it is the same as using on a web page.

There are also three small alignment issues that I would either like to fix or have you fix if possible. These are:

 * an extra leading space before the word "breakdown"
 * an extra leading space before the word "identified"
 * an extra leading space before the word "checked"

I could not figure out how to contact you except for this page. You may contact me through:

link title and then I'll reply with my normal address.

Thank you

Thanks for uploading File:JohnKennedyScuptor.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:JohnKennedyScuptor.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Please do not remove NoPermission tags without fixing the problem. Are you the sculptor, the photographer, or both? If you are both, please say so. If you are only the photographer, then the image infringes the sculptor's copyright.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 16:09, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

[copied from my talk page -- jlw] Hi James, As also you are, I am extremely, busy. I am the photographer, the sculptor John Kennedy has passed sensibly away many years ago, now this is a sculpture in a public place. Hope that this should be enough information for you. I will be grateful for all the help that you could provide about this issue. Thank you. Sincerely, John M. Kennedy JohnManuel (talk) 16:21, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

In that case, unless you can get Commons:OTRS permission from the sculptor's heirs, the image must be deleted. Although some countries allow for the use of images of works in public places, that is not the case in the USA.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 16:29, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

[copied from my talk page] James, and How you get and OTRS permission? Can you do it? JohnManuel (talk) I Come back next week to read your comments, thank you for all the help and understanding that you may provide over this issue, sincerel JohnManuel (talk)

It is up to the uploader to provide any necessary permissions. Go to Commons:OTRS and follow the instructions there.
And note, please, that it is almost universal within Commons to have conversations on the talk page on which they began. We do this for convenience and so that others may easily read them and participate. Please reply here, not on my talk page.      Jim . . . .
