File:F-4 Phantom.tif edit

Thank you for oploading the above file. However, can you give some more infomation about its background? Can you provide an exact source? The photo shows a U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel (Lt.Col.) "S. Freddo" getting out of a F-4 Phantom II. A Lieutenant Colonel was normally the commanding officer of a squadron, in this case a Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA). Cheers Cobatfor (talk) 06:49, 30 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

thank you sir. this is VMFA-212 somewhere between 1974 and 1976. Homestationed in Hawaii hence the Pineapple. If that is LTC Sfreddo in the picture he is alive and living in Irvine. He was a Marine Aviator. If you google “Sfreddo USMC” it’s not a very common name. He was the CO of the squadron. I am not an aviator. I got this photo negative at a flea market and did my best to identify it. I come from an Army infantry background not aviation so I am not an expert at anything. It appears to me by the picture to be a phantom I am uncertain about the variants to feel free to change. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonmallard (talk • contribs) 16:34, 1 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the information. I was not aware ot the name "Sfreddo"... I was wrong in one aspect, I forgot that several USMC squadrons flew the F-4J, as VMFA-212. Some things for commons: you don't "sir" people here. If you want to sign your text here, just make four "~" at the end, and it will be automatically signed. I wonder if you mind if I donwsize the file a little bit, as 900 MB is a rather large file. TIF-files are mostly comming from archives, the JPEG ist the most commonly used format on Commons. PNG and SVEG are used for graphics. Cheers Cobatfor (talk) 05:40, 3 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have no problem with the downsizing of this image. I meant "sir" out of deference and respect to you for your advanced knowledge on this platform. I am rather new here. I collect these negatives and seek to share them so they are not lost to history. I find this to be a worthy cause. Thank you for your assistance. Jonmallard (talk) 02:31, 6 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

File:United States Navy 1970s 09.tif edit

Similar like above, can you provide also some more information? You state as "source" 35mm film, but with source we mean something like a book or a webpage or, if you photographed it on your own, then that you took it. And with copyright onwer you wrote "United States Navy PAO". Do you mean public affairs?--Sanandros (talk) 18:43, 2 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

I purchased a collection of 35mm slides on the envelope and many of the slides it is written "USN PAO" I got these at a flea market for about $2 for the entire collection.

Since they were taken by a member of the government (because google says "PAO" = Public Affairs) This means they are ok to put on Wikipedia. I just wanted to share them so they are not lost to history.

Jonmallard (talk) 19:35, 2 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Are there any numbers written on this film? They could be an older version of the Commons:VIRIN.--Sanandros (talk) 22:03, 3 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Not that I can tell, most have hand written descriptions on the slide. These are 35mm positives not negatives intended for slide projectors. So it’s a piece of film inside a piece of cardboard. Some have “unclassified” stamped on them.most have a month and year printed on the paper part of the slide. Jonmallard (talk) 12:24, 4 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I was about to ask the same question... Are there any other clues, like that the colour slides seem to be taken aboard the same ship or anything else? Thank you and cheers Cobatfor (talk) 20:02, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Europeanvacation photos edit

Hello Jonmallard, we're currently trying to identify the locations where the images about a trip to Europe you uploaded in 2018 were taken (Look here...). Can you give us further information about the provenance of the photos? Do they all come from the same source? --Xocolatl (talk) 22:32, 9 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello Jonmallard, thank you for your answer on my discussion page. You could use this tool to translate the discussion: https://translate.google.com/. But probably only the results are of interest to you... --Xocolatl (talk) 10:18, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much. Everything about these images interest me. I will enjoy that discussion Jonmallard (talk) 11:14, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome;-) --Xocolatl (talk) 12:34, 10 August 2020 (UTC) - The series cannot be complete with a single picture from Lisbon and a single picture from Budapest. What about the broken glass plates? Did you scan them too? Fragments could also be helpful. --Xocolatl (talk) 16:19, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
