Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Nessun disturbo, anzi grazie a te per l'interessamento. Dunque, dovrei aver fatto tutto, dovrebbe mancare solo l'avvio del bot per le modifiche nelle varie Wikipedia, ci vuole un attimo di tempo. Per quanto riguarda File:Mary, Queen of Scots after Nicolas Hillard.jpg ho qualche dubbio, perché mi pare una versione più "luminosa"... Le scritte infatti sullo sfondo si leggono meglio, così, forse è stato fatto apposta. Io la sposterei a File:Mary, Queen of Scots after Nicholas Hilliard (enhanced light).jpg o qualcosa di simile, ma non la cancellerei.--Trixt (talk) 20:23, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Dear Kaho, I have tagged File:Anthonis van Dyck 041.jpg for deletion, using the excuse that there is no source for the new upload (in 2008). The file is, in fact, a near duplicate of File:Charlesx3.JPG and so must have the same origin because the color balance and pixel resolution is virtually identical. However, because it is a near duplicate, I don't think it is necessary to keep it. Hope you agree, DrKiernan (talk) 18:15, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Incontro a Cascina (PI)

Ciao, ti scrivo perché vedo che sei iscritto in it: Categoria:Utenti fiorentini. Sperando che tu legga in tempo volevo informarti che con Kaspo (coordinatore regionale WMI per la Toscana) abbiamo finito di impostare it:Wikipedia:Raduni/WikiGita all'abbazia di San Savino. Si tratta di un edificio normalmente chiuso al pubblico. Ne saranno fatte altre in zona toscana di gite soprattutto nel mese di Wiki Loves Monument quindi se si è interessati all'idea si accetta con piacere ogni feedback. Ritratto di Maria Amalia in veste di Diana

Ciao Kaho Mitsuki. Ok, nessun problema sul fatto che tu abbia annullato la modifica, solamente che dai libri della duchessa Maria Amalia che possiedo (Maria Amalia di Borbone duchessa di Parma 1746-1804 e Donne e uomini del Settecento parmense, entrambi di Idelfonso Stanga), é presente questo ritratto, con la didascalia Ritratto di Maria Amalia in veste di Diana o Ritratto di Maria Amalia d'Austria in veste di Diana cacciatrice, e questo ritratto è quasi identico ad un altro fatto da Carlo Angelo dal Verme o da Johann Zoffany all Duchessa, datato 1772 (https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Maria_Amalia_of_Habsburg_Lorraine2.jpg). Visitando sia la Galleria Nazionale di Parma che la Galleria Palatina, ho potuto di mio occhio vedere tale somiglianza. Mi dispiace di aver causato trambusto con la mia modifica inopportuna, ma so che quello che dice il catalogo dei beni culturali è errato, e ho pensato di correggerlo in buona fede qui su Wikipedia. Non sapevo di non dover cambiare la didascalia, ma quindi la presentazione del dipinto deve rimanere così com'è?

Sul libro Maria Amalia di Borbone duchessa di Parma che sto sfogliando adesso c'è la foto del ritratto di Dal Verme un bianco e nero dopo due bozzetti e sotto al dipinto c'è scritto : In seguito alle istruzioni ricevute, Il Dal Verme pinse questo quadro adulatore e bugiardo, che fu poi collocato nell' appartamento privato di Don Ferdinando a Colorno. Salve Kaho Mitsuki, buona sera, ti invio questo link in cui è presente un'ritratto di Maria Amalia d'Austria (1746-1804), duchessa di Parma, Piacenza e Guastalla. Ci ho messo più di tre mesi di ricerche per trovarlo, ma alla fine sono riuscita a trovarlo (😅). Io ho cercato un'po con quale licenza lo si potrebbe caricare, ma non ho trovato riscontri. Ciao Kaho, ho potuto finalmente verificare i siti dove ho trovato il ritratto di Maria Amalia d'Austria con i suoi figli, risalente al 1785. Tu mi hai consigliato di verificare il link dal quale proveniva in quanto esistente su Tumbrl (https://31.media.tumblr.com/25fc79b78778337fe06e6359d8c7eeb0/tumblr_msqmzx7Lag1qiu1coo1_500.jpg), e ho capito che senza fonti non può essere caricata. Alcuni giorni dopo trovai l'immagine sul sito www.wilnitsky.com (https://www.wilnitsky.com/scripts/redgallery1.dll/details?No=37169) ma attualmente il link non funziona. Pochi giorni fa trovai l'immagine su un altro sito dal quale sono state caricate immagini, il link è: https://www.lot-art.com/auction-lots/Maria-Amalia-of-Parma-with-her-four-children-Italian/156-maria_amalia-05.8.20-wilnitsky. Volevo sapere con quale licenza la potrei caricare. Grazie in anticipo, buona serata.

Hi, I saw you removed main subject and depicts from the Wikidata item. but this is incorrect. The fact that the sitter is disputed should not be a reason to remove historical information about the portrait. The portrait has been well documented as a portrait of Bianca Cappello, and should be kept in her category, though I suppose you could create a sub-category for "portraits formerly said to be Bianca Cappello". This portrait has been recently sold as of Bianca Cappello at Christie's in 2007, so for over a century it has been documented as such. It's best to keep such information for search reasons, and in future, please do not remove statements without replacing them. In this instance you left the item as only depicting a lute. Ciao, scusami il disturbo ma tu sei sicuramente più esperto di me, un’associazione mi ha mandato delle foto sulla Reggia di Monza, i suoi interni e i suoi esterni e le sue planimetrie, chidendomi di caricarle su Commons a patto “di citare la fonte e il nome del comitato.” Mi chiedevo come potessi farlo e se in caso, inoltrandoti la mail e le informazioni necessarie, potresti farlo tu in modo da non commettere errori.
