Falcon edit

Where did you photograph Image:NZ Falcon 2007 03 04.jpg? I know there is one living around Wright's Hill/Karori Sanctuary and a pair over in Butterfly Creek (Eastbourne) --Tony Wills 20:34, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've now updated the image with the details of where it was taken. Karora 12:35, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Road erosion edit

Hi! Fair enough about the road erosion. I'm of the opinion that only what is actually visible on the image should be tagged (and the road erosion is difficult to see), but this is a good compromise. Ingolfson 23:49, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Kanuka, Wellington Botanic Gardens.jpg edit

Hi Karora - the two large trees at centre and left are Pinus pinea, readily identifiable from the bark, crown shape, and a few cones visible (at full magnification). Whether there are any Kunzea ericoides in the photo as well I can't tell, but if there are, they aren't the clear main subject of the photo! - MPF (talk) 14:58, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, but I still believe it really is a Kanuka. The photo doesn't seem to me to have enough clarity at full resolution to show this though, so I'll see if I can pop into the botanical gardens in the next day or two and take some more photos with my newer camera to make it clearer. 202.78.240.82 22:34, 22 November 2008 (UTC). Whoops. Didn't realise I wasn't logged in when I wrote that. Karora 22:34, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I retract that. I went to the Botanical Gardens and checked, and the trees are indeed not the Kanuka I thought they were, though the shape is similar and I was unable to get a decent shot of a Kanuka that did exhibit that shape. Thanks for your sharp eyes. I'll revert my reversions on the other pages. 202.78.240.82 23:54, 24 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for checking up! - MPF (talk) 11:19, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Karora!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Supplejack edit

Hi Karora, may be you can help me. Unfortunately I am far away from Porirua and from NZ, and may not come again before 2011. It is a long time since my last stay in NZ. As you may see I made de:Wandern in Neuseeland, somehow a German version to en:Tramping in New Zealand, because I missed any useable information about walks that are not Great Walks. I uploaded many pics, even that I did not have very good ones, but I am completly missing e.g. pics from Supplejack (Berchemia scandens).

There are some good pictures in the net, but they are not free for usage at Wikipedia. So I ask you to look at your files, or to have your camera ready when you next time struggle with supplejack. I would be very glad when you also upload better pictures from: bush lawyer, NZ stinging nettle, sandflies, and others more. But most need (for the walking article) is for an impressive picture of track obstruction by supplejack. Enjoy your summer, it's now winter in Europe - brrr! -- sarang사랑 12:29, 21 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't know when I'll have the opportunity as my life is very busy at the moment, but next time I see some supplejack I'll definitely take a few photos of it. I'm pretty sure I have photos of NZ stinging nettle somewhere, but I thought there were already ones on commons. Anyway I'll see what I can do :-) Karora 22:14, 21 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Commons have just one picture of Ongaonga; my pictures taken as slides are not better when scanned/digitalized. It is the same, other web pages have good pics, but not Wikipedia. Also not so useable are my pics of bushlawyer.
You are busy - fine, many peoples would like to be.... but sure you have connections and know others able to shoot a picture, why not send them into the outdoors? :-)
When I submitted my mail to you, my provider show me a picture (of you), fully bearded - is that really you? Your business is with radio? I saw some of your pics, Great Britain and "NZ West Island", so I rely on your professionality with camera. -- sarang사랑 12:54, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, that really is my picture - see http://andrew.mcmillan.net.nz/ - I'm not in radio: I write free software. Mainly I'm responsible for DAViCal - http://www.davical.org/ (sadly nobody sees fit to write a wikipedia page about it yet :-) I'll see if I can get into the bush somewhere in the next few weeks, though I really do hope *not* to encounter bush lawyer or Ongaonga! I might be able to get some good pics of either/both from my sister or brother-in-law who both go tramping quite a lot. I'll ask them, anyway. Karora 01:09, 4 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

From The Story of Snow White, Maxfield Parrish, 1912 edit

Hi Karora, I would like to use this image in an art book for the purpose of historic reference. Are you indeed the rightful copyright holder of From The Story of Snow White by Maxfield Parrish and you released it into the public domain? Do I need to contact the california Palace of Legion of Honor regarding licensing of this image? We will be happy to give you full credit in the book. Thank you!

Hopefully you've received my reply to your e-mail now :-) Karora 07:44, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Photo usage edit

Hello :-)

I just wanted to say "Thank you very much" for your picture: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:080722-Valpara%C3%ADso_at_Night.jpg

My name is Daniel, i used that picture in my little "travel around the world" puzzle game for android.

When a player sees your image (when completing a level) there is a short sentence describing the location visible on your panorama and also you are credited directly as "Photographer". Hopefully you are fine with that, if you want any changes please contact me directly. :-)
