I am now proud owner of a TUSC account!

Congratulations :-). Do you want to transfer 2 files from en? . For example
en:File:Head of Ana-Capri Girl.jpg with Category:Rosina Ferrara and Category:John Singer Sargent
and en:File:Rosina Ferrara Capri.jpg (same categories)
Might be better you change the file names as Sargent-Head of Ana-Capri Girl.jpg or Sargent-Rosina Ferrara Capri.jpg
I would do this by myself, but I am blocked by Herby. Regards Mutter Erde 78.49.25.46 20:22, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Butterflies and moth images from old book edit

Hello there, I stumbled on your contributions consisting of extracted images from old books about butterflies and moths (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Papilio_machaon_by_Nemos.jpg for example). I found a book that might be interesting as well. I think there is no copyright problem, since the author died over 70 years ago. I was wondering if you would be interested in doing extractions for these species as well since I dont know how.. I'm making articles about Lepidoptera species at the english wiki and could use these images very well.. The book is located here: http://caliban.mpiz-koeln.mpg.de/spuler/raupen/index.html Cheers! Ruigeroeland (talk) 11:24, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello ! Well, this sounds like a good idea, but also a heavy burden. I have many other things to do, alas. Maybe you should learn to use the GIMP program and do by yourself what you want. But first, you should take care of the copyright: it is written somewhere "© Kurt Stueber, 2003". At least, you may ask him if you can use these images. Another remark is that it is not obvious to find which caterpillar belongs to which species, as numbers in the picture are not matched with species in the caption. Yours, Frédéric (talk) 12:11, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I'll try to contact him. If I do get a positive reply, could I ask you for some help with regards to the extraction process if this proves to be to difficult to figure out by myself? Ruigeroeland (talk) 15:09, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, sure, I will be happy to help. Yours, Frédéric (talk) 09:02, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Kilom691!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary edit

Hi Kilom - I took out some of the species categories, because those Brockhaus & Efron pics are so mind-numbingly, excruciatingly awful, that they don't serve any useful purpose on the species categories . . . to be honest, I don't think this poor-quality archaic stuff (almost as bad as that dreadful Pearson Scott Foresman junk!) should ever have been dumped on commons in the first place, but some people take the attitude, because it's PD and can be uploaded legally, it should be. At most, I'd have uploaded a tiny selection to show examples of bad work in the history of art; certainly not as useful illustrations of the species involved. But if it's all going to be on commons, at least let's leave it just in its own categories, rather than cluttering up categories of far better images ;-) But sorry if you feel I've undone your hard work - MPF (talk) 01:06, 4 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Images edit

Which images specifically? Those from Flickr all contain a link to the Flickr page, many of the black and white images are scans from a personal collection of books - so there is no "website" I can properly link to - instead the proper source is to give the name and publication details of the book. Was there something I was missing? Max Rebo Band (talk) 18:47, 23 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

About template "author" edit

Happy new year and thank's for your edit about authot/creatot. It's a long time I have'nt understood why it not appears. There will be a big number of change to do. Can you explaim me how to use this template ? (I am french and not good english speaker). Fot "Barrias", he is not "painter" bur "sculptor". Next - Siren-Com (talk) 12:59, 1 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I had File:Symphyotrichum depauperatum at Nottingham 1.JPG in Category:Serpentine because it's endemic to serpentine barrens. Greetings, I know we've bumped into each other in the past - especially in conversations and work surrounding "erotic works" on Commons. To help us focus and keep others abreast of what we feel needs doing in the future - I was thinking we should form a Wikiproject:Erotica. I'd invite you to sign up, and take a leading role in building the project, and helping decide on the directions we should take to ensure that Commons can host historically important, simply beautiful, or otherwise notable pieces of erotic art - without extending ourselves to the level of "encouraging usres to grab a webcam and drop their trousers". Pauk's Flickr uploads edit

Hi Kilom - nice that you're identifying and recategorising many of Pauk's flickr uploads of birds. One other problem with them, he is refusing (despite repeated requests) to add the location data which is often included on the flickr original; when recategorising them, it is also worth checking back to the original to see if this data exists and add it when it does (format flickr's "36.6996, -118.934" as 36.6996). Category:Tjokorda Gde Raka Sukawati edit

Hello, here is what the en wiki page (in the interwiki section of the category) says :

Tjokorda Gde Raka Soekawati (new spelling: Cokorda Gde Raka Sukawati), (born January 15, 1899 in Ubud, Gianyar, Bali) was the only President of the State of East Indonesia from 1946 to its disestablishment in 1950.

I do not know what has happened to this category since I made it. I understand that the current state of affair is bad. Sukawati seems to be the family name of several politicians of Indonesia, but I am quite confused about all this. My aim when I created this category was to give a home category for several images in the Tropenmuseum collection, depicting one and the same man. I do not know enough to be able to sort this mess up, sorry..

Yours, Frédéric (d) 19:06, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Looks like someone fixed it for us :-) Multichill (talk) 18:04, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Hello Frédéric and Multichill, I fixed it because it so happens that the Sukawati family is close to mine. They spell their name with a "u" instead of the original Dutch "oe" spelling, so it is their choice (our family sticks to the "oe"). The only famous Sukawati is Tjokorda Gde Raka (paradoxically, with regard to their princely title, the family still uses the Dutch "Tj", while most cokordas use the new "c" spelling). One of his sons, Wim, is a former diplomat, while another son is a former Garuda executive. Regards, Humboldt (talk) 15:43, 30 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hallo Kilom691,
here you have just inserted the note "NoUploads". The photographs were made by the son of the artist and made available. The respective OTRS tickets also include the release of the rights-holder of the artwork by the descendants of the artist.
I think that the note "NoUploads" therefore fails is in order and would ask that you remove this again. PLEASE help one, maybe you can insert an indication that the OTRS tickets also include the rights shares the artistic work?
Thanks + Regards, --Jocian (talk) 09:28, 23 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, says the German text of the "NoUploads" note of something else. After an upload is possible only with Panoramafreiheit. Those users who are referred to as the de.WP "wikilaywer" are then removed in the near future images from the biographical article on H. Klein-Arendt, I'm afraid. Hmm, I'll think an explanatory note text and paste it in place of the "NoUpload" note. Ok?

Category:Ptychadena superciliaris edit

Bonjour Kilom691,
Encore merci.
