Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Bonjour Kondah et merci infiniment pour vos contributions, en textes comme en photos.

S'il m'arrive d'intervenir sur les catégories, n'y voyez pas malice :-)

Cette page d'aide explique un peu mieux ce qui est attendu : Commons:Catégories, en particulier la section Surcatégorisation.

En effet Commons ne fonctionne pas avec des mots-clés, comme Flickr par exemple, mais avec une arborescence de catégories qui doivent être les plus fines possibles, sans redondance.

Par exemple Category:Leclerc-Eboué Monument est une sous-catégorie de Category:Monuments and memorials in Yaoundé, elle-même sous-catégorie de Category:Monuments and memorials in Cameroon by city, Category:Architecture of Yaoundé, Category:History of Yaoundé, etc. Donc on ne remet pas Category:Cameroon à chaque fois.

De même on ne remet pas à chaque image Category:Tourism in Cameroon, puisque les monuments figurent déjà dans Category:Visitor attractions in Cameroon.

Merci pour le travail considérable et méthodique que vous faites pour les transports au Cameroun (je donne un coup de main pour les catégories, alors je vois passer tous les fichiers, super).

Si vous le permettez et si c'est possible, j'aimerais vous faire une demande précise.

En effet il commence à y avoir quelques articles sur les plaques d'immatriculation dans les différents pays d'Afrique : [1]

C'est très utile pour que le lecteur comprenne comment ça marche dans chaque pays : la signification des différentes couleurs, des chiffres ou des lettres.

Il y a déjà quelques photos [2], mais peu pour le Cameroun. Souvent les véhicules sont trop loin et on ne voit pas bien.

Vous serait-il possible de prendre quelques gros-plans, à l'avant ou à l'arrière d'un véhicule (plus facilement en stationnement sans doute) ?

Je suis vraiment admirative et reconnaissante pour le soin apporté aux légendes qui m'a beaucoup aidé. Je viens de faire une première ébauche : [3] qu'il faudra développer. Malheureusement je n'ai pas trouvé les textes officiels actuels. L'article existe en anglais (pas très bien sourcé) et en ukrainien (???). On pourra leur mettre des images. The recommendation for the Commons:depicts property is to only add things that are specific and clearly depicted. Edits like these ones or these ones add a bunch of subjective, and frankly wrong information to the depicts that others have to clean up. Please be more careful and specific. +!. Please stop that or at least stop doing that on my files. Wikidata objects aren't hashtags. They are here to precisely describe what is depicted and not what you associate with it. You simply can't label buildings that were built in the 1870 as "Classic architecturte". At least look at the categories before you do anything. Wiki Loves Folklore 2023 has started, Join us! edit

Greetings from Wiki Loves Folklore International Team!

Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photography contest hosted on Wikimedia Commons to document folklore and intangible cultural heritage from around the world, such as folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, folk activities, folk games, folk cuisine, folk wear, folktales, folk games, folk religion, mythology, and many more.

The campaign invites participants to document photographs, videos, and audios linked to folk culture and fit within the contest's theme. Through this campaign, you may become a part of a community dedicated to preserving our intangible culture, which has been brought and passed down for thousands of years.

How to Contribute?

The dates for the submission in the photography contest on Wikimedia Commons are from 1 February to 31 March 2023. Probably you are wondering how you can take part.
