Hello, Lais

I noticed by chance, that your beetle Prosternon tessellatum is not Prosternon. I guess, it is Adelocera murina. I am not good enough to say something about the other beetles, it sometimes is quite tricky. cheers, Siga --Siga 15:28, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Stenurella nigra/Leptura aethiops edit

I do not know which picture you mean. I think:  ; in this case, completely sure.

Please, check the shape of the anterior margin of the pronotum (without furrow and lateral gibbosity like S. nigra) and the shape of the posterior tibiae (right, while sinuate in L. aethiops).

Here (http://www.cerambyx.uochb.cz/lepturaethiops.htm) you can confront your cerambycid with a picture of a true Leptura aethiops. Here (http://www.cerambycoidea.com/foto.asp?Id=533) three Leptura aethiops of my Photogallery --Vitalfranz (talk) 15:28, 29 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Platyninae edit

Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera and Carabidae of the World Database and ToL Web Project lump a lot of subfamilies in Harpalinae, and as Wikispecies goes with these, I have simply decided to follow them. It's more or less interim, but as an interim solution it seems to be en vogue to lump them these days. In any case, the approach by FE is not wrong; there are basically two alternatives: extreme splitting with a profusion of subfamilies, and extreme lumping with a profusion of tribes. And the former would be impossible to implement on Wikipedia with the markup/taxobox code we have, whereas the latter can be handled (except a few minor points, see ToLweb).

So both the extremely wide (CPC, CWD, ToLweb) and the extemely restricted Harpalinae (FE, many Russian sources) are legitimate interpretations of the phylogeny as far as we know it. But I am rather glad that the majority view is the one that can be implemented on the 'pedia without hassle ;-)

Thanks for notifying me - I shall add the alternate treatment of FE to Wikipedia. I shall also add a few minor subfamilies that are presently missing to Wikispecies, and then we can actually use Wikispecies as the default point of reference. Someone has parsed the whole CPC to there, and I am very glad about that. And finally, I shall go over the Commons categories, and add some taxonomic information that will help users find the platynines etc. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 15:22, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unknown cerambycidae edit

Hi,
yes: all your identifications are exact: Monochamus sutor sutor male, Monochamus galloprovincialis pistor female, Tetropium castaneum male.
Monochamus galloprovincialis pistor are sometimes difficultly separable from M. sutor, but the scutellum has a triangular spot (rather a longitudinal complete line), the body spots are dark (rather than whitish) yellow, the body colour is brownish or almost metallic (rather than true opaque black) and less parallel-sided.
Moreover, in Northern Europe, Russia and generally cold country, M. sutor often have very reduced spots.--Vitalfranz (talk) 15:29, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Template:Cc-by-nc-3.0-us edit

Sorry, but no, CC-BY-NC is not an acceptable license for Commons. I've nominated the template for deletion. You're welcome to comment on the nomination, but it's pretty clear from Commons policy that licenses forbidding commercial use are not allowed here. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 19:36, 23 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Laisverobotams!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Request for a move edit

Hi, Giedrius!

I just requested a move of your uploaded image File:Otho spondyloides.jpg to File:Otho sphondyloides.jpg, since the form with -h- seems to be the one used everywhere (also in lt:Medienvabaliai, in species:Otho sphondyloides, and in the file description you provided). Thus, I assume that omitting the -h- just was a typographical error. Am I right? JoergenB (talk) 23:50, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
