Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

die Datei ist schon ganz gut gelungen, hat aber noch einen Schwachpunkt: Die einzelnen Farbflächen sollten nicht direkt aneinanderstoßen, sondern wie bei Wappen üblich durch schwarze Linien getrennt werden. Zwischen den einzelnen blauen und weißen Rauten und zwischen den beiden senkrechten Hälften solltest du die noch ergänzen. Viele Grüße --Rosenzweig δ 17:50, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

P.S. Habe mich gerade an was erinnert und mal Heraldik nachgeschlagen... soweit ich das nachvollziehen kann, ist hier das Nebeneinanderliegen von Metallfarben das Problem; je nach Auslegung wäre aber auch schwarz nicht die Lösung. Generell: Bezog sich das hierauf? Nein, die Farben-Metalle-Regel ist wieder was anderes; die Einfassung von Farbflächen mit schwarzen Linien ist eine Darstellungskonvention. Die offizielle Seite http://www.stmi.bayern.de/buerger/staat/wappen/ hat die Wappen auch mit schwarz umrahmten Rauten, ebenso fast alle Wappen in der Category:Coats of arms of Bavaria. Die beiden SVG-Versionen des großen und kleinen Staatswappens leider nicht, die sollte man auch mal korrigieren. Gruß --Rosenzweig δ 19:59, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Die schwarzen Linien passen jetzt, danke. Beim genaueren Vergleich mit der PNG-Version fällt noch auf, dass die Rauten anders angeordnet sind. Man kann im Netz (hier bspw.) aber auch noch andere Varianten finden; wie die genannten „bayerischen Rauten“ im Detail zu gestalten sind, ist für das Wappen des LK München anscheinend nicht festgelegt.
