File:De-Lurch.ogg

Dear Marbletan, You removed the Category in the file mentioned above. According to Pons dictionary is the German Lemma Lurch best translated as an amphibian. You wrote in the editing description: Removed from category Category:Amphibia because the file is also in subcategory Category:German pronunciation of words relating to amphibians per the Commons Categories policy. Which rule/paragraph/sentence/ described exactly the reason for your removing? Kind regards Jeuwre (talk) 14:46, 17 February (UTC)

@Jeuwre: The applicable section is Commons:Categories#Over-categorization. Since Category:German pronunciation of words relating to amphibians is a subcategory of Category:Amphibia, files that are in Category:German pronunciation of words relating to amphibians should not also be in Category:Amphibia. In my opinion this is a general rule, and not one that is required to be followed in all cases. Therefore, if you object to the recategoriziation that I did, please feel free to undo my edit. The files are under commons creative license

Hi Marbletan, this file is under 'commons creative license. see here and judge. And also the other files Karim185.3 (talk) 15:46, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Your nomination is not right Karim185.3 (talk) 15:50, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Indeed, you are correct. I missed the Creative Commons license. Thank you for letting me know. I have withdrawn the nomination for the file. Regards, Marbletan (talk) 16:07, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

PD images with incorrect info

Please don't nominate obviously PD images for speedy deletion simply for having false information, as you did with File:Montgomery-Street-San-Francisco.jpg. The correct thing to do is to fix the description, not delete the image. -- King of ♥ 04:59, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

OK, I'll keep that in mind. Regards, Marbletan (talk) 13:57, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

Cyanidin-3,5-O-diglucoside

Dear Marbletan, I have checked the formula. The Configuration is correct, I believe. However there is no OH-bond at C-2. I have corrected my mistake and uploaded the new version. Thanks for your message again! --Durfo (talk) 18:42, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for checking the structure and making the correction. Marbletan (talk) 13:12, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

Chemical files of User:N4TR!UMbr

Hello Marbletan, I have noticed that you have improved the quality of some chemistry files of User:N4TR!UMbr by uploading a newer PNG version. At the moment, I'm superseding those files by uploading new high-quality SVG versions. If it's okay, I would like to continue with this job myself. Thanks for your understanding, — Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 15:35, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

I'm happy to let you have that job. Thanks for doing it. Marbletan (talk) 16:21, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. Btw I personally prefer vector graphics instead of PNG files where it is possible and makes sense. Thanks & have a nice weekend, — Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 16:26, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
I agree that vector graphics are the superior format for simple chemical structure images. I was just trying to help out by improving some of the very low quality PNGs by upgrading them to higher quality PNGs. You have a nice weekend too. Marbletan (talk) 16:33, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Yes I know, thanks for your help! — Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 08:42, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Claudio Pistilli's mass-deletion at Chemistry/Deletion requests

I saw this edit. It's annoying that the preceding closed sections of Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by User:Claudio Pistilli are so prominent in the current log page. I had some ideas for solving that, waiting to see if there are any responses at Commons talk:Deletion requests#Unique headers for subsequent discussions in a deletion-discussion page. DMacks (talk) 17:27, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

Yeah, I think it's strange and often confusing how Commons handles multiple similar requests such as these. Also I'm not sure that I'm doing it right or not. If you have any suggestions for a different (or better!) way of starting these nominations, please let me know. Thanks for starting a discussion at Commons talk:Deletion requests regarding the issue. Overwriting existing files

I came across some files that you overwrote, like this one: File:Potassium_crotonate.png. I don't think that this is way it should be done, this is not a minor improvement (Commons:Overwriting existing files) and your files should be uploaded as new files. I'm not sure now what should be done with such overwritten files, I'd say that these files should be restored to the old versions, then deleted in a DelRequest, and your versions reuploaded as a new files. However, that is going to be a lot more problematic for me as I'm trying to systematically get rid of Claudio Pistilli's content from Commons, so I'd be grateful if you didn't overwrite his files in the future. Wostr (talk) 22:14, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Let me know if you (any "you"s) need help disentangling these sorts of situations via history-splitting or other tricks. DMacks (talk) 23:38, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
I'm all in favor of doing what's necessary to remove bad chemistry files from Commons, and I too have been working to remove Claudio Pistilli's files for that reason. I have nominated many of them for deletion. It's true I have replaced some of these files by overwriting them, but these have primarily been files that are in use and therefore can't easily be deleted. At least once, when I have tried to replace a use of one of Claudio Pistilli's files with a better one, I have been reverted. Simply overwriting the file with an improved version avoids that problem. For these files, restoring the old versions, reuploading the new version as a separate file, universally replacing the old file with the new one, and then nominating the old file for deletion seems like a lot of unnecessary work to achieve the same result. I will, however, take your suggestion and refrain from overwriting his files in the future. Marbletan (talk) 12:55, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
In the past some of his uploads were kept with a reason 'in use'. I don't think that this is true right now. I wouldn't really bother to replace his uploads in eo.wiki, just nominate it for deletion with an information that there is a proper replacement. Files in question will be removed and replaced with better versions almost in the same time and he won't have time to prevent this. What's more, most of his uploads in Commons have equivalents in eo.wiki, even if there is no such equivalent, he usually uploads it back in eo.wiki right after the deletion in Commons.
