Hi! Thanks for the great rotating eath picture Image:Rotating earth (large).gif. But... "selfmade"? You lounched yourself into orbit and shot a video? How did you create it, using what data? I assume it's NASA data, so there should be no copyright problem. But it would be good to put that info onto the description page - also because i'm curious and would like to know how you did it;) -- Duesentrieb 22:04, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I've taken a foto from [1]. That's free licence right?
I made this gif with simply 3D. For this easy kinds of animations a very comfortable Program.
Do you have any Ideas for other animations? I'd like to give the Wikipedia some of them.
--Marvel 22:13, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the Info! I added the source of the originals to the image description pages - this is probably not legally neccessary, but nice to know anyway. When I need some anymations, I'll let you know :) Thanks again for this cool pic, i already pointed it out to the folx that do the featured image thing on the german WP. -- Duesentrieb 23:30, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Yes, clear. It's always better to know, where it's from.
And yes, give me ideas! And tell everyone to give me some! :)
And last: Wow! My animation an featured image...that would be rally great.
--Marvel 19:57, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)
...I'm afraid it won't be selected as a featured image - they liked it generally, the problem is the file size - it takes quite long to load (i didn't notice, i have a decently fast connection). Maybe I'll pont them to the smaller version, but I like the big one better.... well, anyway - great work! -- Duesentrieb 21:05, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Thanks again. Yea sure I like the big one better too. You can see much more deteils. Do you know, which size a candidate for the featurede picture should happen?
Maybe it's better that it wont get a featured picture. So I have another big aim for the future. :)

!! >> You're animation is great, I'm using it in a presentation about the origins of life. Do you still have the "star background" in a seperate file? Can you upload it to wikimedia commons and link it from the ani? I would really like to have it... (the same bg as the big version) MillTheWind (talk) 16:08, 2 September 2009 (UTC) 2 sept 2009Reply

I just like to say thank you for this animation.

I have a challenge to you. Could you animate this? Gbiten 23:36, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thats really a challange, but I'll try. Thanks for this task. Marvel 18:33, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

This picture is from NASA, but I know who mades this other picture: Image:BigSplashEnglish.png. She is Muriel, and you can find her here, by the way a 2D animation will be very nice. Gbiten 00:20, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Dear Marvel, it would be wonderful if you could make another amination for Big Splash, even in 2D. I have the original Corel Draw file for the diagram, and i can mail them to you if you find them useful. Let me know if i can help in any way. Cheers, muriel@pt 02:14, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC)

 • The diagrams will be sent, but only after Christmas, i dont have my computer with me at the moment. Parents would kill me if i brought laptops... Grüss, muriel@pt 11:36, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Ok. Thank you. No problem. But after Chismas I'll go to Hollydays. So don't worry, if I don't create the animation until the new year. Merry Chrismas. Marvel 14:42, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

My God, your image is wonderful!!! I never thought it would work so nice! I'm going to propose it for festured immediately. Big congratulations! muriel@pt 10:32, 12 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Very nice work. Gbiten 15:02, 12 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hello, Marvel!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Big Slash.gif edit

Can you explain to me why Theia moves back and forth in this animation?

Also...according to Newtonian physics, it seems impossible that Theia would be orbiting faster than the Earth...it would have to follow a more slingshot-like path in order to attain such velocity. Bob the Wikipedian (talk) 01:35, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

--153.96.200.9 15:06, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please help replace this outdated license edit

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

--Mideal (talk) 11:11, 20 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
