Hi Mattinbgn

I'm quite sorry that our words got all tangled at the discussion I started. I think I pinned down where it happened, where you made claims about both myself and Fry, but only gave a diff to your claims against Fry, which I honestly haven't looked into that part of the claim. It doesn't worry me, I'm not upset where you say I'm calling people liars even though I am not, but I do understand that you are upset and I am sorry about that.

About the 'future' stuff, it is generally accepted that people can ask to be kept informed, at least it is on en.wiki. Please understand that I would take everything I can into account when I vote at an RfA and seriously, a vote from me doesn't count for much, it's just one vote. Sometimes if I vote one way, people vote the opposite way. I saw that the other day, so it's not all bad really. People think of me as a complete jackass actually. They're wrong of course because there are bits missing.

See, here is the bit on en.wiki about asking to be kept informed (we don't have such a page on commons as far as I know)

I am just really concerned about people who just do not care about the loss of humble, quiet editors like Outrune, in the pursuit of their own self interest. Bidgee won't be going anywhere even if he does get de-admined. He'll still be here, but Outrune and people like Outrune who just want to help all of us in some quite corner of the project by editing things nobody else would think of, I care a great deal about them. It worries me when they get all of their work destroyed like Bidgee did. Outrune made 100 svgs and uploaded them, I do not know how long that took them, I don't know how much effort it took, I can't do svg myself even though I'm an artist. But the way 100 images were reverted with no discussion and no possibility of appeal, well, I think anyone who has a heart can see the problem. Certainly I might make a habit of helping people who won't ever take an interest in voting for me but that is not why I want to help them. I just can't stand by and see people ruin the project for self-centered reasons at everyone else's expense, it's not right. 100 images takes a lot of work and a lot of dedication and there are voters there who are not even showing any indication that they even read or considered Outrune, or their work, or their feelings.

Anyhow, how about this, if ever some people convince me to lose my mind and agree to a RfA, I promise to leave a note on your talkpage begging you to come vote against me ok ? It would be a clear sign of the end of the world as mentioned in revelations in the Bible if ever someone who talks as much as I do were to become an admin here, so I'll surely need you help to prevent that from happening, ok? As I said, you win. I have learnt not to mess with you. I was wrong to be critical of your actions in the desysopping discussion as it appears your conduct is acceptable in Commons. It was my mistake. I promise I won't disagree with you in the future. Please now leave me alone. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 07:47, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Happy to help. The "Wikipedia takes ..." look like a lot of fun to be involved in. I am hoping that someone has taken plenty of shots of the town as well. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 20:36, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

You have mail

Hi Mattinbgn, I sent you an email to your gmail address a few days ago, not sure if you got it or not. Bidgee (talk) 04:58, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Bidgee. My apologies - I did get it and meant to reply but got caught and forgot about it! Sorry. Will shoot you a reply shortly. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 07:15, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Hey I noticed you've poking around with the photo from WikiTakes Waroona, I appreciate the work you have been doing. Thought I'd let you know I trying to get the last of them uploaded yesterday & today utilising the last of my monthly limits. I aware of these not having basic cats and descriptions I'll fix them up. Gnangarra 07:09, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Happy to help where I can. Great job on organising the event. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 07:37, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Deamalgamated Shires in Queensland

Hi, Matt! As you may or may not know, we have four de-amalgamated shires here in Queensland effective today:

I've gone through and updated the text in all 8 of these articles showing the 4 as being now de-amalgamated. But my problems are the maps. All the de-amalgamated shires are back to their old boundaries so their maps are OK, but the maps of the regional councils from which they are de-amalgamated are not OK. The maps were created by User:Roke who appears to have left Wikipedia/Commons in 2010. I am willing to have a go at updating the maps, but I just have no idea what tools/methods were used to create the maps in the first place. So I was wondering if you know anything about how those maps were created? Thanks, Kerry Raymond (talk) 05:18, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Very aware of the situation with the de-amalgamated councils in Queensland. I don't know anything about map creation personally but you could try Commons:Graphic Lab who may be able to help. Good luck! -- Mattinbgn (talk) 06:19, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
I think I just got my hand on the raw data for the de-amalgamated shires from the Queensland Government Information Service, which is licensed as Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia, which is positive. Will work on trying to get them into a LGA map. Bidgee (talk) 07:15, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
Great stuff - thanks for having a look. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 09:16, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
Using my PC via VNC, the program I'm using for the map creation is a little buggy (crashes often and has some garbage data added to the map). This is RAW data that has been outputted as an image. Bidgee (talk) 12:15, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
Created but I need to get the svg file size down from 7mb to a few hundred kb or 1mb at a maximum. What I though was garbage data looks to be valid data. Bidgee (talk) 15:59, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

It would be a big job for someone I know, but it would be wonderful if someone could create a set of Queensland local govermment locator maps like the Victorian set at Category:Location maps of local government areas in Victoria, Australia for use in a new set of locator templates like en:Category:Victorian LGA location map templates. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 21:49, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

I'll have a go, may take a week or so. Bidgee (talk) 02:00, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
I've made some slight adjustments, but have also added protected areas, rivers (including lakes and dams), rail and roads (major and highways), still needs further work and I'm also trying to create urban area (to show the extent that towns and cities have within the LGA). Bidgee (talk) 15:47, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
Looks great! Thanks for your work so far ... -- Mattinbgn (talk) 20:19, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
Urban centres and localities with more than 200 people has been added. Large 1.4MB (2843x3520px). Bidgee (talk) 03:50, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Reversion

Greetings! I am an admin working through nearly 60,000 images missing a source. I repaired your image file File:Alexandra_Old_Post_Office_003.JPG today, see the diff here. The file was previously missing source information due to a broken template as you can see on that page. I made changes to fix the template, removing it from the "missing source" category. I am reverting your reversion, explaining it here. If there's any reason that you wish the file to be "no source/no author" due to a typographical error, please let me know. I suspect you may have reverted just pro forma from having people mess with your photos before, but my edit was very valid, just take a look at the diffs to see what the effect of the extra brackets created. I have marked the edit summary showing that the total changes of this edit are the removal of two curly brackets }} which were preventing your image from being properly sourced and credited. Thanks for all your uploads. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 05:02, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Some real oddities out there :P

Hi, any ideas how one might categorise File:Goomalling R4 fake cafe end railway tce 1.jpg and File:Goomalling R4 fake cafe end railway tce 2.jpg? Orderinchaos (talk) 09:50, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Hell, where to start! Is it a museum display or a tourist attraction? It is a shed of some sort so can be categorised as such. There are supermarket signs, advertisements, banner displays etc. It is one of the most curious things I have seen. Not quite Category:Bric-à-brac but perhaps Category:Curiosities? -- Mattinbgn (talk) 10:41, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks - yeah it's a tough one! And re waxes and wanes I entirely understand! Very much the same here. Orderinchaos (talk) 23:34, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Bots

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script.
