I understand what you mean, however this is like this carvings look in reality. Please compare to a picture on this page. By this I don't want to say that the order is correct, but I want to say that the picture shows exactly what have I seen in the Kushida Temple. That is not a mirror image.

The reason why the order is reversed is unknown to me. Perhaps it has something to do with a place where the carving is placed. It's not on the ground, but on the ceiling of the gate, over the passing people.

I will keep one version of the picture as it is, because it shows how the real object (ceiling of the temple gate) looks like. I agree however that right now, it is not a correct illustration for "Chinese zodiac" article. I have prepared another version of the file in the way you have suggested. This one however is mirror image, and I have described it as such.
