Bildrechte edit

Hallo Herr Morgner!

File names edit

Thank you for uploading images on Commons.

In future please choose more understandable names for files then Image:Dsc00849.jpg.

Yes, that's right. Sorry, this was a mistake. Hope it's better with the new pictures.

Also descriptions of images are more than incomplete edit

I fighted hard to categorize all Iceland images. You have a lot of them and I think I was able to find the right places because I also visited a fair amount of Iceland. But I have to admit that your descriptions are very incomplete and for people who do not know the exact spots the images are more or less useless. Please be more verbose and descriptive. Thanks for sharing your work in the WikiMedia effort anyway. Andreas Tille 11:34, 2 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yes, you'r right. I was afraid of such comment. But I have some problems with this pictures. Even if I did the pictures by myselft, I'm often not sure enought where exectly the places were or what exactly they are showing. This means, I'm not close enought to the landscape detail to be sure, that I find the correct description. That's why I prefered to give only abstract descriptions of them to prevent going with wrong information. Maybe, it's much easier for people like you, who have a better clue of the visible objects. I'm angry about my ignorance about locations or names of what I saw and next time I do a tourney I will make better use (at least) of my GPS to give correct loacation information. The only bit I know about where the motives are, is a kind of 'between X and Y' but X and Y typical are points with about 180km to 260km distance. So I dont' know what to do. Not uploading or not describing? Not describing gives the possibility, that people who know, may add more complete and correct information about the objects. This is, why I decided to upload them without having exact information about them. Waht do you think? --ka-em-zwei-ein 22:16, 2 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Well, WikiPedia is about illustrating something. If you don't know really the place which the image illustrates it is not really useful. This does not mean that you should not upload some abstract photo, but sometimes the quality of the photos would not justify uploading several versions of this abstract motiv. IMHO, quality is not about uploading many things but uploading "the best things". So if you don't know the details I would only upload an abstract photo if it is good enough to illustrate the abstract thing very good (which means better than other images in WikiPedia at least). Andreas Tille 20:13, 4 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure if I can agree with your point of view. I believe, that team work is an important point here. I'v seriouse problems in cathegorizing my pictures. You can read a discussion about this point here on this site. The reasons for which the pictures will potentially be used, are different. If someone writes an article about landscape forms of Island (for example) he/she might not be exactly interested where a picture was made (may be), but may be happy to have lots of different pictures to choose from. Another author should be interessted on specific plants, regardless where the pictures are made and so on. Further, the decision, where a picture is to cathegorize is not easy. People recognizing very different things on the same picture but it seams, that assigning multiple cathegroies to a single file will not be honored on this place.
Wrong!!! Just add more than one category!
I'm a bit unhappy about the cathegorizing system on Wikimedia. Especially the way, who pictures can be found. One example: If I'm in search of a specific flower, should I search in all 'Plant of *' cathegories?
No, if people take care for their images they tag it with 'Plant of *' and the name of the plant and in case they don't know the name they should add Category:Unidentified plants. See the team effort above for botanical experts ...
It's nice that you did so for example for one of your images Image:Iceland_4822.JPG and I just added the 'Plants of Iceland' category. So you have a nice example in your own folder. (Nice picture BTW!)
For me it's a critical question. I'm working an article about 'Koppelgetriebe'. I'm sure, here are many pictures for this article, but how can I find them if picuters of machines, robots, devices, mechanical gadegets, .... are only cathegorized in one or two otherwise cathegories? I'm sure, here are lots of pictures showing 'Koppelgetriebe' and other mechanical systems in real life and I'm (realy!) not interested in where the pictures are made, if they only show the <thing> I need for my article. An example is Image:Zuerich_Hauptbahnhof_3374.JPG which (for me) shows an train in the main station of Zurich, but the picture is not cathegorized as 'Train', so, no one who is in search of a picutre of a train can find this picture, because he don't know, that he will find a picture of a train under 'zurich' or 'cycling'. I'm realy confused! PS: Maybe, I'm able to find out the location of the pictures from Island, because I have a GPS recording from my travel through Island. May be, I can match the times of the picture and the ones from my GPS recorder. I will do reseach in this direction. ka-em-zwei-ein 20:42, 5 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
This would be great.

Wallpapers and other edit

Hi Morgner oder hallo Morgner

Thank you for creating nice wallpapers for desktops but i think the commons are not the right place for them, because we can't use them in any Wikimedia project. ->> Image:Bildkunst 2572.jpg.

Pleas also note that english text is preferred.

Articles like Kalabrien:FotoQuerschnitt are not very usefull, and pleas choose better categories, beacuse this article is now in soooo many. So when someone wants to look for sunset he stumbles over images like this Image:Kalabrien_Ricadi_Sandwellen_2129.jpg. And Image:DSC02223.JPG in Category Plants is also nod good, because you know, that it is a cactus and better a prickly pear.

Your images are nice but your stile of providing them is painfully. So please improve it, look at the community portal, read other articles and categories.

--DustyDingo 18:39, 28 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I try to change it all. Sorry. I will study the rules and adapt my documents to follow them. I had the feeling, that it's more usefull if the documents are connected.

Further I did a mistake by generating a category 'Olive', but I'm not sure how to correctly erase it now.

A question: If anything is in a subcategory, is it also in the maincategory? I couldn't find out it. This is the reason why I assigned 'plants' to the 'cactus'.

--ka-em-zwei-ein 18:54, 28 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • A category also can be in a category, so the best way to add an image to a category is to identify it as good as you can, for eg. a photo of a VW Typ 2 t1b. It's a car, but if you know that it is a VW you can add it to Category:VW, not to Category:Car, and if you are clever you can add it to Category:VW Typ 2, not to Category:VW. (please also note for life-forms latin names are preferred) --DustyDingo 21:03, 28 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hallo DustyDingo,

I can't understand the intention of what I read. My idea is, if tis is applicabel: I will delete the pages I created and insert the images in my private site. Are you (or anyone) able to recategorize the images? In this case I would simplay upload my other pictures an put them in only one category the seems to me as correct. Is this a suitable way?

Kastell edit

Hallo,

A barnstar for you! edit

  The Photographer's Barnstar
Hi Morgner!

My name is Edoardo Bit, I am an architect and also a “young researcher” of the University of Ferarra (Italy).

I am writing a book on the “green walls technologies” and I have found very interesting a photo in your Wikimedia Commons page. So, I would kindly ask you if I can use it in my book.

Obviously, if you gently decide to grant me the permission, your name (or your Wikimedia Commons nickname) and the link of the picture will be correctly cited in the credits of my publication.

The photo which I would use is: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Moos_5769.jpg

Thank you very much! I hope you will attend my request… My e-mail is: edoardo.bit@gmail.com

Bye, Edoardo
