Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hej, Jag ser att du lagt till koordinater för många bilder. Jag har noterat två saker som du kan tänka på. Det första är Template:Location konstruerad för att ligga intill inormationsmallen, exempelvis såhär. Då ser koordinaterna ut som en del av infomallen istället för att se ut som en separat ruta. Det andra är att dina koordinater har 6 decimaler som är ca 1 decimeters noggrannhet. Så noga är det svårt att vara om man inte har GPS inbyggd i kameran. I samma exempelbild ser man i Eniro eller Google att din koordinat hamner mitt på kyrkan, medan bilden tydligt är tagen utanför kyrkans grind 30-40 meter väster om kyrkan. /Ö 20:04, 2 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Koordinaten överförs från motsvarande kyrkoartikel på svwiki maskinellt. Koordinaten är angiven med den precisionen i artikeln. Mina verktyg tillåter mig bara att lägga in koordinaten i början eller i slutet av artikeln. Inte den smidigaste lösningen kanske. Det kan gå att göra på andra sätt, fast då måste man veta hur dispositionen ser ut innan koordinaten läggs in och man måste koda en del. BBR-länkarna som också lagts in med robot har lagts överst i artikeln. File:Jarlasa 1.jpg har redigerats så här av ErfgoedBot Jag tänkte att det inte skulle vara något problem. Jag låter resterande 1500 bilder jag har koordinater för vara. Det går ju alltid lägga in dem manuellt senare. Nasko (talk) 22:11, 2 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
