When categorising files, please avoid placing them into several categories that are directly linked within the same tree (e.g. a parent category and a child category – like Category:United Kingdom and Category:London), to prevent over-categorization of files and over-population of categories. Usually, only the most specific category should be used. See Commons:Categories for more details. Thank you.

Did you read above? You are required to follow this policy. HTH. --KurodaSho (talk) 11:44, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I read, I don't understand. Please, clarify. I thought that Categories were meant to facilitate searches. So, if I introduce "Spain" as a category, why am I not allowed to introduce also "España," which would facilitate a search by a Spanish speaker? Same for Ibiza/Eivissa, Balafi/Balàfia, etc. Furthermore, if someone searches for "Ibiza," that person would also find out that Balafi/Balàfia is on that island. Why do you keep eliminating the "Ibiza" category for my pictures of Balafi/Balàfia? Thanks.

Nicolas G. Mertens (talk) 10:16, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Loves Earth edit

Hi Nicolas, I've noticed the images of Menorca you provided. They're fantastics and quite valuable. I was wondering whether you could want to participate in Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2018 in Spain. The constest is running during May (and therefore the images you uploaded on May 3rd are eligible) and the conditions are listed in the page I've linked (to sum up, coming from a site of community importance in Spain; sites without a picture have a bonus). If you agree, I'll take care of tagging the images you've provided. If you have more pictures that can be eligible, don't hesitate to contribute. If you have any question, feel free to ask. I'll be glad to help. Best regards --Discasto talk 10:35, 20 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello , Discasto. Sorry for responding late I am in bind right now. I will get back to you around Friday. Thanks for your patience. Nicolas G. Mertens (talk) 14:49, 21 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
No problem. As said, you needn't do anything. I can take care of proper categorization   --Discasto talk 14:16, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ok. I'm back and I looked into your suggestion. It took me an inconsiderate amount of time to try to understand the procedure to participate, and I still don't understand a few things. Maybe you can help. Step 1: Regístrate. Already done, no problem. Step 2: Busca. Looking at the Lugares de importancia comunitaria (LIC) de las Islas Baleares, I suppose that the photos you suggested would fall under Parque Natural de s'Albufera des Grau, and that the LIC would be ES0000234. Step 3: Fotografía. The photos you suggested comply with this step; no problem. Step 4: Comparte. This is where I hit a wall. When I click Selecciona los archivos multimedia para compartirlos, I cannot find a way of selecting the photos that are already in my Wikimedia account. I am sent instead to my computer hard disk, and if I select a file from the hard disk, a message says the file has already been uploaded. So there. I'm stuck, and just about ready to give up the whole thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicolas G. Mertens (talk • contribs) 11:36, 24 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I missed your answer. The idea is that I take care of steps 2, 3 and 4. You've already provided some valuables pictures and I do thinks they can participate in the contest. As said, I'll take care of tagging, categorizing and any other stuff. Is it OK for you? Of course, if you have more pictures of Spanish natural sites, please, upload them and I'll take care of the boring stuff   Best regards --Discasto talk 20:55, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well, OK. Go ahead. I appreciate your efforts. I already uploaded other pictures of the Camí de Cavalls, but that was last month. I don't have anything else for May. Thanks again. Nicolas G. Mertens (talk) 07:19, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Wow! I saw your work. This is fantastic! Thank you so much. Please, let me know if I can be of any help to you!Nicolas G. Mertens (talk) 15:42, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
It would be nice to have pictures from all the protected sites of Menorca (see ca:Llista de Llocs d'Importància Comunitària de les Illes Balears), but, of course, it depends on the availability of pictures  . Ahh, I forgot, what is really fantastic are your photographs!!! Have you considered to nominate any of your pictures as Commons:Quality images? Best regards --Discasto talk 18:37, 30 May 2018 (UTC) PS: when answering me, use this template: {{ping|Discasto}}. That way, I'll know you've answered.Reply
Thanks again, you are most kind. I never considered nominating any of my pictures at Commons:Quality images. I don't have a very competitive spirit. If people like my stuff, fine; if not, fine also :) Besides, it's all too complicated. I don't even know how to use that template you mentioned to respond to you. Sorry about that. @Discasto: Nicolas G. Mertens (talk) 08:02, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

You've done it quite well   I've found your pictures not only nice and very well executed and treated, but also quite valuable. From the images you've provided (here), almost half of them are used in any Wikipedia project (see). I'm really happy as well. I'll will review your remaining uploads as I think they're definitely useful. Best regards and don't hesitate to come back to me with any Commons-related issue (I was an admin for years and still know most of the policies and guidelines). Best regards --Discasto talk 09:04, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

File:Louis Borgex—Poster for Aristide Bruant (1897).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Please don't be discouraged edit

Having good photographers is the lifeblood of the Wikimedia Commons and the issues are with re-users, legally speaking improper attribution is a copyright © violation and you can e-mail them and tell them such. You don't lose any rights uploading here only exclusivity. You can also add "{{Published}}" to the talk pages of the photographs you created that were used elsewhere and note which re-users did or didn't properly attribute your works. I really hope that you won't feel too discouraged as your uploads are valuable and people wouldn't be using them if they weren't. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 11:44, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your kind words and the reference to "{{Published}}". I had no idea, of course, because I am totally unfamiliar with these technicalities. It took me some times to "decipher" how to use that feature. Also, I suppose that what you call "the talk pages of the photographs," you mean the discussion pages of these photos. When I click Talk when viewing a photo page, I get back to this discussion page, the user's discussion page. So, for a start, I put the "{{Published}}" code in the discussion page of three photos. For example, [1]. Thanks again! --Nicolas G. Mertens (talk) 16:35, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
