Είναι πιθανόν να ανεβάσει κάποιος στα commons εικόνες που έχουν ανέβει προηγουμένως αλλού στο διαδίκτυο (και δεν είναι δικές του), όμως πρέπει να γράφει ρητά η ιστοσελίδα ότι είναι διαθέσιμες με άδεια συμβατή με τα Commons, δηλαδή ότι επιτρέπεται η ελεύθερη τροποποίηση και αναδημοσίευση.
Δείτε για παράδειγμα το tempo24: γράφει στο τέλος «Copyrights ©2014. All right reserved», που σημαίνει ότι απαγορεύεται η οποιαδήποτε αναπαραγωγή ή τροποποίηση χωρίς να ζητηθεί πρώτα άδεια από την ιστοσελίδα. Το γράφει και στους όρους χρήσης. Υπάρχει και ένα επιπλέον πρόβλημα: πολλές από αυτές τις ιστοσελίδες έχουν πάρει τις εικόνες από αλλού, χωρίς να το σημειώνουν. Για παράδειγμα, η εικόνα στο άρθρο του tempo24 είχε δημοσιευθεί ένα χρόνο νωρίτερα στο lepantortv.gr, αλλά παίζει να μην είναι ούτε αυτό η αρχική πηγή της εικόνας.
