Hi Perumalism, yes, you might be right, but in fact there's just a similarity but no evidence that one more of of these serial uploads was taken there. i.e. there is no related description, or, named location, or, GPS data, hence, imho in general rather avoid suggestions (personally, I try to categorize this way, but may be wrong). btw: of course you do 'a good job', and I avoid reverts and hate to do so, but attended to set some 'signal marks' by struggling with re-categorizations. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Hii @Ashwini Gadade: Files you mentioned above are by PR Wire so they are not a own work of the silverscreen.in generally tamil film events are photographed by silverscreen's in-house photographers other language film events images are from PR Wire. Its better to nominate the same for deletion and find a new image in silverscreen.in taken by in-house photographers.

1. Mushrooms are no plants - therefore th ctegory for this picture might be Category:Unidentified fungi of India
2. But in this case this is not correct either as it is not unidentified! The Scientific name is in the name of the file, therefore the correct categories are Category:Coprinus plicatus, Category:Fungi of India

Uploading higher resolution images from PIB

Thank you for the great work in finding the PIB source for images in Category:Files from narendramodiofficial Flickr stream! You have made more progress in one day than I had until now. When you find a low resolution copy of a PIB image on Commons, please make sure that you upload the higher resolution image. You can actually ignore the addition of {{ID-PIB}} template for now, as the script that I created will make a list of duplicate images and generate the appropriate templates for them. I plan to add this list to a user page, similar to what I've done here. However, the script cannot detect images as duplicate if they're not exactly the same. If the higher resolution image doesn't exist on Commons, the bot will upload it as a new image, creating unnecessary duplicates. —Gazoth (talk) 21:54, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

Removing "Uncategorized-PIB" template for auto-categorised images

Do you think we should remove {{Uncategorized-PIB}} template from images auto-categorised into one of the "by year" or "by month, year" categories? Of the 33k files in Category:Images from Press Information Bureau needing categories, around 10.6k are in one of the Narendra Modi subcategories, while 6k are in one of the Manmohan Singh subcategories. Removing these would allow us to focus on images in more need of categories. Alternatively, we could move them into another tracking category to separate them from images that have actually have no categories. —Gazoth (talk) 03:01, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Sure, that can be done. Do you have any suggestions on moving these files to the new category? We have to create a new "Uncategorized" template of course, but how do we replace {{Uncategorized-PIB}} with this new template? VFC can do custom replace, but it doesn't handle thousands of files very well. I have created {{Uncategorized-PIB2}} template. It looks like AWB can be used for this purpose by recursively creating lists of files from Category:Manmohan Singh by year and Category:Narendra Modi by year and then intersecting it with Category:Images from Press Information Bureau needing categories. Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

• To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
• To perform file name swaps.
• When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Mass moving related to Category:Media needing categories

I guess your English is not good. But I recommend something:

• Category:Unidentified subjects with file names or descriptions in Thai --> category:Uncategorized media with description in Thai language. Because we are definitely merging these two categories.

It would be nice if you help to categorize files from "Category:All media needing categories as of YEAR" to "Category:Files from Flickr (uncategorized YEAR)" (eg to Category:Files from Flickr (uncategorized 2016)). And we also have Category:Files from Panoramio (uncategorized). I am using en:Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser to do this job--Estopedist1 (talk) 07:19, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on 1 May 2023, 23:59:59 UTC.
