File tagging File:Калуга - Краеведческий музей.jpg edit
This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Калуга - Краеведческий музей.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

- @Magog the Ogre: Hello! You wrote that these photos have no permission for publication. In fact, the author of these photos (Nordprod) gave permission to do anything with any of his pictures. The link for his post in Live Journal is here, I've mentioned it in photos' description (unfortunately, it is in Russian). --PhilAfan (talk) 16:28, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- The permission will need to explicitly include a license, which it doesn't appear to (if Google Translate is my friend). Please see Commons:Email templates. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 16:33, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Magog the Ogre: Emm... He talks about giving photos in public domain. Just without any licences. Is it not enough? (I'm sorry if I told something silly coz I'm very far from copyright issues.) --PhilAfan (talk) 16:47, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Putnik, Rubin16, Russavia: one of your assistance would be helpful here. Thanks. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 16:55, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- I will have a look rubin16 (talk) 17:14, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- @PhilAfan: : the author says "use images as you wish" ("используйте, как вздумается") but we can't treat is as a definite public domain: at least free license means not only free usage, but also free modifying. So, I would ask author for a more clear statement or for a direct OTRS permission rubin16 (talk) 17:48, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Again, I recommend Commons:OTRS/ru. Let Rubin or Putnik know when/if the email has been sent, and they can expedite the process. Good luck. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 21:49, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Nordprod has made thousands of photos of historical monuments in Russia and neighboring countries. It is pretty obvious that he will not bother about sending OTRS permissions for every photo he made. --Alexander (обсуждение) 15:35, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- there is no need to write for each photo, he can write permission for the whole blog/site rubin16 (talk) 02:51, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Nordprod replied the following:
Как-то громко это звучит - "общественное достояние", неудобно такое писать. Можете быть уверены - никаких претензий к использованию фоток я не предъявлю.
(I can provide a screenshot of this message sent through the messaging system of LiveJournal)
As you see, it is beyond normal human logic to write "общественное достояние" after writing "используйте, как вздумается", which is a definitive statement of public domain. We can't force people to use the official language that may not be appropriate for their personal blog, and we can't expect people to provide individual permissions for thousands of images. Therefore, I kindly ask any admin who still has doubts to contact Nordprod directly. You can send him a personal message or leave a comment in the first post in his blog.
I would also like to remind everyone that this question is not about one single image. It concerns a huge collection comprising thousands of photos that are vital for Wikivoyage travel guides and Wikipedia articles about cities and monuments. --Alexander (обсуждение) 19:44, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- that's not possible to write to uploader every time someone sees images and wants to ensure in their license correctness, that's why we need clear statement in his own site or OTRS permission that could be easily checked at any time. We can't interpret the current explanation on the website and some private promises in private messages as a public domain declaration. Futhermore answer like "неудобно писать про общественное достояние" shows that author doesn't know much about public domain and we can't be sure that he understands terms of free licenses completely: that's why these images couldn't be kept without OTRS permission rubin16 (talk) 02:51, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, that's why I kindly ask you and other admins, who are experts in the licensing issues, to have a direct communication with the author and explain him what "общественное достояние" means. --Alexander (обсуждение) 06:54, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Nordprod responded to our request and wrote the following:
Объявление для Википедии и других некоммерческих проектов: можно считать мои фотографии, выложенные на http://photo.qip.ru/users/nordprod/, в этом журнале и в сообществах ЖЖ как "общественное достояние" и использовать свободно.
I hope it solves the problem. --Alexander (обсуждение) 07:47, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
- now it is OK for me and we can use that photos as public domain. I will remove deletion templates now rubin16 (talk) 14:41, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
