Focus stacks

Sad to see that you withdrew this. I realise it's probably not my place but I think you did let the criticism of this image get to you a bit too much. I guess it's pretty frustrating to see it fail when you've put a lot of effort (and I guess money) into it, but the nom was I think always a bit of a risk - I think it was good enough, but using a x2 extender is never going to get the sharpest results in the world. I'm not altogether surprised that your very first efforts at a photo like this fail to get through an FP process that is often IMO a bit too interested in technical details to the exclusion of other things. But I wouldn't let it get to you so much. The focus stacks you've been making without using the extender have been receiving a very good reception, with the spider one passing in five days, and the scarab beetle would have passed unanimously too. Maybe it's best to focus on those ones at FP - I suspect the ones with the extender would do better at VI than at FPC. As well as the beetle, this and this are obviously FP and I'd be very surprised if they didn't pass unanimously. (And the scarab is clearly FP, as the consensus was making clear.) Cmao20, it may be that I sometimes take criticisms to heart. That's the way I'm and it is never a criticism but the sum of them over 10 years here, specially when they are formulated in a way to demotivate. I cannot understand why some users here give their best to demotivate photographers who try to bring the project forward in areas that are extremely underrepresented. That's just silly instead of trying to create a constructive environment where photographers challenge each other instead of attacking them until you bring them down. That's what happened and If I've no fun anymore doing something then there's no point anymore in forcing it. If I'd earn my life with that I'd probably have to do it anyhow, but it isn't the case. Don't believe all you read from other users the problem is not the extender but rather the magnification rate. I got acceptable results with a magnification of 2,5x and the extender, for example. Things aren't black or white here. I moved on. We'll see now how it looks with underwater photography, an area which is even less represented in the project than macro (and for which I don't know any institution uploading good material with a free license). So far, I can tell you that reading things like this from an active user who doesn't have the courage to sign with their usual account is insulting. That I call killing 2 birds with a stone, opposing with a bullshit sarcastic question and ruining our nom just before it closes, before this sockpuppet goes to sleep again for a while. I understand the frustration. It was indeed interesting to see the arrival of an unfamiliar user that resulted in the failure of the nomination, but I don't think it's worth commenting any further on that. Cmao20, zou have nominated a lot of pictures of mine and I also consider you a fair and impartial reviewer. Indeed, if you oppose a nom of mine then it's a strong indication to me that the pictures is not a solid FP. So, I will not be angry or disappointed if you nominate any picture of mine, incl. the macro shots. But, are you sure about that one? I've just gone through my last uploads (including macro but also underwater shots) and I've updated my own FPC pool accordingly, are you sure taht you don't find something better thatn that there? Well, I definitely see the one I linked to as a solid FP, but I will happily take a look through your FPC pool and see what I can find. I can't promise I'll nominate them in the next few weeks as I have a backlog of other things I've found that I want to get through, but there is definitely some extremely strong material in there. Tridacna gigas

Hallo Poco, es freut mich, wenn ich Dir helfen konnte. Beim Bestimmen kommt es am meistem auf Erfahrung an. Bestimmungsschlüssel weltweit gibt es so gut wie nicht. Ich arbeite mit eigenen Unterlagen (z.B. die Bücher von Nordsieck sind für die europäischen Meeresmollusken sehr gut, weltweit benutze ich auch von Thiele das "Handbuch der systematischen Weichtierkunde"). Online sind zu empfehlen [1] (leider nur Schnecken, keine Muscheln) oder [2], für den schnellen Überblick, in welche Ricjtung es überhaupt gehen könnte, kann man auch [3] oder [4] verwenden. Europäische Landschnecken sind sehr gut unter [5] und europäische Muscheln unter [6] beschrieben. Ansonsten arbeite ich auch viel mit WoRMS, da hier bei den Arten oft der Link zur Originalbeschreibung (falls online zugänglich) zu finden ist. Generell bin ich immer an Fotomodellen interessiert, egal ob Muschel oder Schnecke, Land oder marin. Hi D-Kuru, I know and understand what you mean, some of my pictures have been also declined because there weather was just too grey or foggy although there was no overexposure. In this case though I came to the conclusion that it is burnt because both, the branches at the top (that ideally should be cloned out) and the cross along with the roof of the shrine have lost color and are a bit "skimmed" (angefressen) due to the bright sky. That's at least my opinion. The other one is just below QI, too. The sharpening didn't make it QI (at least not yet, and now I've doubts). Best --Poco a poco (talk) 21:39, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
