Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

トランスウィキ edit

こんにちは。Chatamaさんのトークページでご質問を拝見しました。画像をウィキペディア日本語版に移動させたいとのことですが、もっとも簡単なのはウィキペディア日本語版に同名で同じ画像をアップロードし、コモンズ側にあるものを削除依頼にかけることだと思います。コモンズでのトランスウィキの運用や機能について詳しくはないのですが、少なくとも、コモンズとウィキペディア日本語版で依頼が成立し、それぞれで管理者が作業しないと実現できないのは確かです。それよりも、コモンズでの削除依頼と日本語版での再投稿のほうが早く済むと思います。また、問題のファイルの場合、Psjk2106さんの版しかないため、トランスウィキによって履歴を保存する必要性もあまりなさそうに見えます。以上の理由で、ご自身でアップロードしなおされるのがいいのではないかと思います。--whym (talk) 13:38, 29 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

ありがとうございます。私はコモンズにはほとんど来ないので、こちらの会話ページは見ておりませんでしたが、JAWPで画像が削除されたことを知り、JAWPに再アップロードの上でこちらにやってきたらWhymさんのメッセージが入っていたので、少し反省しております。とはいえ、削除されたようなので、ありがとうございました。--Psjk2106 (talk) 03:58, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open edit

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text.
