PD-Polish edit

Yes, you need to add the license by editing the page after it is uploaded. I haven't used the wizard enough to know if there is a way to add an image first while being able to edit the license late. You can also use the old form (Commons:Upload), which has an option to let you type it in. Or, if you are comfortable typing in all the elements of the Information template by hand, the really old form. Carl Lindberg (talk) 16:17, 13 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi edit

Hello Volunteer Marek,

I think that the picture you made graphing the number of images against the amount of text is pure genius ! It's such an easy to understand guide to the number of images people may like to use in an article. Brilliant. Have you done any others, like a general one, or one that includes my favorite article the en:international space station ? I'm not entirely sure how to count up text amounts for the article... thats one reason I think yours is so cool.

Thank you. I used the DYK character counter to get article size (you can enable a script to let you do that). I did two graphs, one for History FAs [1] and one for Military history FAs [2]. I also looked at some relationships between lede length and article size and length and vintage of the article (when it was promoted). You can click on my contributions to see those.
The ISS article has 62735 characters and 45 images (including the tables and the small images of the modules). This would put it significantly above the regression line (for either Hist FAs or MHist FAs). But note two things: 1) 16 of the images are the modules pictures, which is what makes this article different from others. Without those there'd be only 29 images in the article which would put the ISS article much closer to the regression line and 2) once you get into articles that have more than 20k, and especially above 50k, the variance in the data goes up a lot (it's heteroscedastic) and there's many fewer observations. This is why when I brought this up on Wikipedia I specifically stated that the graph and the estimated equation should only be used as a rough guide and that each article is idiosyncratic.Volunteer Marek (talk) 11:42, 29 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Intimidation edit

Hello, you have recently said on the sysop noticeboard that russavia has been intimidating you on Commons. Just out of curiosity, can you point to evidence of that ? If you do, I suggest you report it in another thread of the AN so we can focus on the original discussion topic. Kind regards, --PierreSelim (talk) 21:02, 16 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

It is important to keep a cool head, especially when responding to comments against you or your edits. Personal attacks and disruptive comments only escalate a situation; please keep calm and remember that action can be taken against other parties if necessary. Please try to remain civil with your comments. Thanks!

This is absolutely not on. It harms your point of "civilized discussion" when you at the very start begin by engaging in personal attacks on another editor by calling them "sleazy". This type of behaviour and personal attack may be encouraged and condoned on off-wiki sites you participate in, but on Commons, this is blockable behaviour. Consider yourself warned that if this type of personal attack occurs on this project by yourself in future, you will be blocked. russavia (talk) 21:12, 16 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Indeed my recent experiences here have made me actually stop my photo taking sprees. Perhaps I will take some more photos in occasionally, but no more mass Commonist uploads, at least, not till some editors here stop treating others like crap... (or pursuing personal vendettas). And as you say, it's not so difficult to upload photos to Wikipedia. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 19:46, 17 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Mapa edit

"Historia Polski tom 1, Polska do 1586", 2007, ISBN 9788498198089, s. 61. Natomiast mapa, którą przedstawiasz pochodzi prawdopodobnie z lat 70. ethnographic map of Minorities in the 2nd Polish Republic ? edit

Hello, your map of the minorities in 2nd Polish Republic by language is wonderful, but is, somewhat misleading, inasmuch as it gives only 'Ukrainian' both as language and ethnic minority, en bloc and does not make the difference between Ukrainian and Rusyn (Ruthenian). However, the census of 1931 did make the diference between the two both on linguistic and national/ethnic level. For example, in the Province of Lwow, in 1931, 18,5% declared themselves to be of Ukrainian nationality and 15,6% declared themselves to be of Rusyn nationality (Polish Statistical Yearbook 1938 page 22, Table 14 quoted in Wikipedia Poland, Województwo lwowskie, http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Województwo_lwowskie) , in the Province of Stanislawow, there were 47% Ukrainians and 22% Rusyns, (Polish Statistical Yearbook 1938 page 22, Table 14,quoted in Wikipedia Poland, Województwo stanisławowskie, http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Województwo_stanisławowskie) and in the Province of Tarnopol, there were 25,1% Ukrainians and 20,4% Rusyns (see: Województwo tarnopolskie in WIkipedia Poland http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Województwo_tarnopolskie).

I am, in fact, trying to find a map that would show , for example, Hutsulshchyna, Łemkowszczyzna, Boyko region, etc., with the chaning borders of (a) Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (b) The partition borders (c) 2nd Polish Republic borders, including major towns in each Province. It seems to me that only such a map, cross-referenced with the latest cencuses of the 2nd Polish Republic concerning languages including both Ukrainian AND Ruthenian-Rusyn language, for example, could give the real image of the Minorities issue in the 2nd Polish Republic .....

Could/would it be possible for you to produce such map ?

I added a query to the Village Pump here and your edit here removed it and other material, such as the question about the data center. I assume it was a mistake.--Sphilbrick (talk) 00:07, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I see Sphilbrick has already mentioned it, just letting you know it's been mentioned at Commons:Village_pump#Blanking_of_comments_by_Volunteer_Marek too. Obviously, it's a lot of work to be done to undo the removal, could you please fix this as soon as possible. Thanks, russavia (talk) 01:45, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

You are well advised to stop with your harassment edit

As stated here, you are being asked to stop with your harassment of myself immediately. Unless, of course, you wish to have this taken further; in which case the full facts will be laid out for people to see for themselves that you are continuing the same behaviour as you engage in on English Wikipedia and off-site. The difference being; harassment on this project is not tolerated, and I will have it dealt with. So consider yourself warned. russavia (talk) 14:06, 16 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad you made your threat explicit and put it in writing where there'll be a record one can point to in case you or one of your buddies tries to actually follow through. Thanks.Volunteer Marek (talk) 22:15, 16 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
And for any talk page stalkers - of course I have not harassed Russavia. I have criticized him. And the way that Russavia responds to criticism is by initiating harassment himself while at the same time crying about how much of a victim he is. That's how he got long term banned on en-wiki (and has like, what 3 or 4 different topic/interaction bans currently?). Volunteer Marek (talk) 22:17, 16 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please edit

A "picture is worth a thousand words," as they say, so at present, everywhere the following picture is used, it is as if 1000 words of text appear without a traceable citation. So, please, I would ask that you provide a full citation of the source data appearing in this image—

File:Income death in logs graph.JPG

Otherwise, even though no one polices this, it is simply an end-around Wikipedia principles requiring that all information be sourced and verifiable (i.e., whether it is policed or not, it is a violation of WP:VERIFY and WP:OR).

After finding your original source, it would then help if you add that source to any article showing this image. Thank you in advance for completing this work. [A professor] 2601:246:C700:19D:6DB8:E3D9:8FD6:A7B0 17:36, 31 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
