Patagonia

Hi Russavia,

I discovered 2,861 photos in Jason Hollinger's photostream from Patagonia. I think it has a Commons compatible license. Can you upload it?. That would be wonderful!. --Createaccount 12:17, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

Aviation

Hello. Nice Plane Pictures you have been adding recently. Is ther any chace ou could upload some taken at Alicante Airport in Spain? We need some for the main article as the ones we have are out of date.

Also if you have any pictures of the new Monarch A320's (G-ZBAA & G-ZBAB) could you upload some of them too.

Thanks and keep up the good work :) --MKY661 (talk) 01:41, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

File:2011 Subaru Forester - S Edition (5442761431).jpg

Hello russavia, could you please delete the above mentioned file, as this was an unintentionally uploaded copyvio. Thank you in advance.--FAEP (talk) 16:53, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

No problem FAEP, I've gone ahead and deleted the file. The only reason I picked that up is by looking at the FP candidates, and having seen this photo in print advertisements for Subaru down here. No harm, no foul. Cheers, russavia (talk) 16:58, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

Cross of Liberty

Is this ok now? Kruusamägi (talk) 14:31, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, that's a good find, but honestly, I don't know if it would be enough. I see that the monument was designed by Rainer Sternfeld, Andri Laidre, Kadri Kiho, Anto Savi (according to the en.wp article), so it would likely need clearance from all 4 designers of the monument. My nomination (including some images I uploaded) only covers the aspects of Estonian law which deal with the FOP; if we can get a clearance from all 4 designers of the monument it would be something that is best dealt with via COM:OTRS. I'll drop User:Taivo a note bringing them here, and perhaps it's something that WMEE could get involved with as well...obviously we want to save all possible images from being deleted. Let's see what Taivo says, and what other editors may opine with as well. Cheers, russavia (talk) 14:46, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
I replied in deletion request. I voted   Keep and explained my vote. Taivo (talk) 15:03, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
This page that Rainer linked to me is about best practice of using the figure. This is made together by all authors, Ministry of Defense and Office of the Government. Therefor it is already written down what the authors thing about the issue.
What does Taivo got to do with it? + WMEE isn't necessary in this situation either (and if you contact WMEE then I would be the person answering).
Kruusamägi (talk) 15:09, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Kruusamägi, Taivo is simply an Estonian editor whom I know is active on Commons, and my asking them is simply getting wider opinion on the issue. As to the issue, I am still a little concerned in that whilst the Estonian MoD has that page, does it override §20 of the Estonian copyright law? If someone was to use the images in a commercial publication, could they still be liable for damages under §20 of copyright law? This is something that we should consider. Also Kruusamägi, great that you are the WMEE contact; has WMEE done any lobbying on getting Commons:FOP#Estonia looked at and amended to allow for full freedom of panorama? Armenia has recently changed their laws to allow for full FOP, and the Russian law is set down for an amendment in the next 12 months which will allow for buildings. Always interesting to hear what the chapters are doing to help get these types of issues looked at by governments. russavia (talk) 03:25, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Ok. I didn't know that Taivo is also active in Commons (there aren't that many Estonians in here). :)
They are remaking the Estonian copyright law and I have made a proposition of adding FOP there. It is likely that it would be added, but not within a year or so, as it is a long process.
§ 201 starts as following: "Without the consent of an author and without paying authorship fee it is allowed...". At a moment the authors have written down how the work could be reused and therefor this paragraph doesn't have any importance in here. Kruusamägi (talk) 08:55, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
There probably aren't too many active Estonians here on Commons; the more the merrier, and its good in cases such as this to have native speakers. The major problem as I can see it, is that if someone were to use images of the memorial in a derogatory way on a commercial basis, would the Estonian MOD, and more importantly the designers, still stand by that statement of free use, or could they fall back onto § 201 to claim damages? This is obviously a COM:PRP issue that we should be mindful of for our reusers, whoever they might be. What are your thoughts on this? russavia (talk) 06:20, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Local image

File:ACMI 14.jpg is not the best version of this statue in your neck of the globe. I think the crap may hit the fan soon over us hosting it. See the history of w:Academy Award and read the links in the file templates. If the WMF and Academy go head to head it would be nice to have an image in better focus. w:Australian Centre for the Moving Image may even provide a far better image with the glass off if we promise that their name will be dragged into the media and legal proceedings. Media and tourists flocking to see what all the fuss is about.--Canoe1967 (talk) 14:25, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

In this instance COM:FOP#Australia is clear cut. I see no reason for it's deletion as it is at the moment; unless I am truly missing something. russavia (talk) 19:52, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
The image is hosted on USA servers where the statue is still in copyright. See: w:Lex loci protectionis, Commons:Lex loci protectionis, Commons:Requests for comment/Non-US Freedom of Panorama under US copyright law, and w:Talk:Academy_Award#Image_place_holder.3F. It seems that after edit warring at w:Academy Award we don't have any image in the infobox now. Lex loci protectionis has never been tested in a case like this but the community has decided to host images until it is. Editors at en:wp seem to think that commons servers are under different copyright laws than en:wp servers.--Canoe1967 (talk) 23:01, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Triple Bridge

Hi, is there a particular reason why you have reuploaded the images File:Ljubljana, Triple Bridge (6223252762).jpg and File:Ljubljana, Triple Bridge (6221278902).jpg that have been already deleted? --Eleassar (t/p) 22:17, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Ooops, deleted again. There's no fooling you ;) russavia (talk) 05:10, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

What bothers me more is that these batches are uploaded without any review of which files are free at all. It means a lot of cleanup work and time that would be bettter invested e.g. by categorizing images or writing new articles. --Eleassar (t/p) 08:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

hey

File:Doleschallia bisaltide bisaltide (Autumn Leaf) - male, January 2013, Singapore.jpg

Sorry if I come across like I'm all blasting you in particular with my Dragon Breath at AN over this issue, it's a general thing at all the 'block/shoot/hang 'em first' crowd, because seriously, I can't stand people who simply block when they don't know what to do. Blocking is not a cure for ignorance, and some kid certainly shouldn't be the scapegoat for everyone else's lack of logical thinking. Deleting the image while it's all worked out would make more sense, as it doesn't offend anyone. Blocking the editor doesn't make sense compared to explaining to them something along the lines of 'We're not sure WHAT to do with your request, please hold on and don't do naughty things in frustration, while we talk to the WMF legal department about it' (which btw, are going to tell you there is NOT going to be any forseeable change to the longstanding welcome that younger editors get here).

Seems strange to be waiting on the legal department to let you know if this image File:Doleschallia bisaltide bisaltide (Autumn Leaf) - male, January 2013, Singapore.jpg is ok, but instead of deleting the image while we wait, we delete the editor while we wait. What else they have done or would do would be calmed down in a second with a soft kind word from JKadavoor Jee or I. Penyulap 15:40, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

categories, {categorise} and {personality rights}

Hi, as pointed since months, again and again, thank you for using >meaningful categories< and respecting {categorise}, i.e. please avoid to use 'main caregories respectively avoid 'over-categorizing'

p.e. Category:Female models from India instead of Category:Women of India etc.
p.e. Category:Men at work in Tamil Nadu and/or Category:Statues of Hindu deities in Tamil Nadu instead of Category:Gods + Category:Idols + Category:Hindu deities
p.e. Category:Fishing boats in Tamil Nadu instead of Category:Black and gold + Category:Fishermen + Category:Fishing + Category:Gold + Category:Men + Category:Steve Evans {btw categorized by "Files by ..."} + Category:Sunsets + Category:Steve Evans {indeed, every upload twice} + Category:Files uploaded by Russavia (Steve Evans) + Category:Files uploaded by Russavia {categorized by the category before}

etc.etc.etc.

btw: imho it's highly recommended to tag images of 'persons not in public life' with the template {personality rights} !

Final regards, Roland zh 21:52, 6 August 2013 (UTC) and Roland zh 22:02, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Roland, is there any reason why you continue to:
  1. Nominate files by Steve Evans for deletion? We have been through this a million times before
  2. Remove Category:Steve Evans and Category:Files uploaded by Russavia from files. Please leave these categories as is. Let people who are going through these files (i.e. myself) remove such categories. The Category:Steve Evans category should stay on all uploads (whether uploaded by me or not).

In relation to the categories, I am going through his uploads at the moment, so I will take some of your suggestions on board; and let more knowledgeable editors fine-tune categories if they are required. Thanks, russavia (talk) 22:13, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Concern over your crat role

Hi Russavia,

FYI, I have opened a thread at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Concern about the bureaucrat role of Russavia

--Slaunger (talk) 21:24, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, I will look this over and will respond early in the week. There are a few things to address. russavia (talk) 07:58, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi Russavia, when is "early in the week" in your part of the world? I hope you can spare the time soon. I am surprised you have not commented yet considering your general activity level on Commons (you pop up on my watchlist repeatedly on various pages). --Slaunger (talk) 20:27, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Hey Slaunger, I'll probably respond on Saturday. Just given one of the comments that concerns me deeply I want to formulate a response that I feel is warranted, but am waiting on hearing back from someone with further info. Sorry for delay. russavia (talk) 18:31, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
OK, master of suspense, but if it is that 'porn' tangential by Pldx1 and the anonymous (coward) editor you are deeply concerned about, links to previous revisions of talk pages, etc. I think you should just ignore it (or I can delete it). It has nothing whatsoever to do with it. It is just noise. --Slaunger (talk) 18:48, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Please stay focused on the issue raised by Slaunger and do not divert the discussion towards sexual images in general or your role wrt them. I would view that as an attempt to divert the discussion away from the correct issue. If you feel the need to comment on those other matters, do so in another discussion. Please do not edit war over that drama-fuelling section created by Pldx1. Colin (talk) 13:39, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

  WorldTraveller101's Hall of Fame Barnstar
Congratulations, Russavia! You are the very first user on Wikimedia Common to be inducted into my hall of fame. You are one of the finest and most respected people here for a reason and I am pleased to recognize you for your contributions to this community. WorldTraveller101  ?  20:28, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Airbus A380 categories

Howdy mate,

I was just curious, you seem to be an aviation expert and enthusiast and you do an amazing job with categories. I was wondering as a future reference as to which airports should have their categories for Airbus A380? I know that major international airports, such as London Heathrow, Los Angeles, and other ones have it, but which airports should and shouldn't have the A380. I ask so that I don't f--k up the categories or have random subcategories. Thanks. WorldTraveller101  ?  23:54, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Not really too sure which airports should or shouldn't have them for the A380. I know we have one photo of an A380 at Perth Airport, but I wouldn't create a category for it just yet, given that it was here on a promo tour and we don't yet see scheduled service by the aircraft. Perhaps airports with scheduled A380 service would be the best way to go about it. russavia (talk) 00:34, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Makes sense. Ones like Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, LA, London-Heathrow, and others that have regularily scheduled A380 that are "A380 hubs". Examples like Miami, Atlanta, and Houston that get sporadic service should not have it. That's how I see it. Thanks for your opinion. WorldTraveller101  ?  00:56, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Of course, you could also base it upon the number of photos one has from a specific airport. If there are 100 photos of an A380 at Atlanta, then it's perhaps a good subcategory to have for that airport. russavia (talk) 01:04, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

An Jora Jora ultralight for you

A Jora Jora for you

Just to step back for a moment from our 'disagreement', here is an ultralight for you. It is not my domain at all, but suddenly this flew over my head some days ago and I happened to have my DSLR by me. Today I have found out what it actually is, an ultralight designed in the Czech Republic. Much to my surprise this type of aircraft was not available on Commons. As I am ignorant of aircraft, you may want to check if I created the category Category:Jora Jora right. Best wishes, --Slaunger (talk) 23:45, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about that, I've added another category. It might also be of interest to you -- I contacted Maersk Line on Flickr, and they have kindly relicenced their entire stream for us which is at Category:Files from Maersk Line Flickr stream. The first company I've had success with in relicencing content for us. On the other, I will be doing that this morning. Cheers, russavia (talk) 23:54, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I noticed the FPC, which is very nice. And good work with the licensing! Mærsk is normally perceived to be very, very conservative, and 'closed', and I am (positively) surprised they have relicensed their stream. But they are also very, very smart, and maybe they did the smart thing here. --Slaunger (talk) 23:59, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
I had a read of their social media guy's blog, and he is very cluey on the benefits of social media, etc, so I would say that Maersk is extremely lucky to have such a person on board. russavia (talk) 00:32, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

We got caught in an edit conflict at the ANU. I've commented initially there. russavia (talk) 07:01, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about the negative vote Russ, I think it is pure hypocrisy that they keep the image so that they can all troll jimmy and figure "hey there is nothing wrong with US doing it, but YOU can't". That's pretty fucked up. I only vote against you because of Fae's beligerant intolerable constant harassment. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7. Have to cancel out his vote, and you know, those discussions come down to simple majority rather than content. Still, he's probably driving away a bunch of other people as well of course, so hopefully those ones were against you. Mostly. Pity, I wasn't though. I pretty much didn't care at all. I just wanted to point out the hypocrisy is all.

....and seeing that is too freaking much for some people, diff, well, stuff it. I'm compelled. Penyulap 11:57, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry Penyulap, but the image is not being kept so that it can troll Jimmy, for it was not uploaded for that purpose in the first instance. The image was kept because it is in scope. It is in use on pl:Tim Patch, and that article appeared on the front page of Polish Wikipedia, and there was no issue. The article was passed for DYK by a couple of admins (one of whom is a former Arb), and it is now undergoing a GA review and again there is no issue amongst Polish Wikipedians -- even a sitting pl.wp Arb is supporting the article as is. And you can be sure that they know about the issues. So it is a big leap of faith to say that it is being kept to troll Jimmy, because you also implicate those editors on that project in the alleged trolling.
As to your "remove" vote, how you vote is your prerogative, but you should know that I don't have "friends" here on Commons. If that means interacting positively with Fae; then so be it. If that means interacting positively with yourself; then so be that too. I try not to get involved in editorial interpersonal squabbles, because frankly we are supposed to be adults here, but I know for a fact that both you and Fae would see eye-to-eye with one another on many issues; just your delivery methods are different. I would suggest that you both try and find some common ground, and work on that, and in the end we can be all the more COM:MELLOW. Don't you agree with that? Hell, I'm sure that if Commonists editing in the Nagorno-Karabakh area can seek common ground and put it into practice, there is no reason that the two of you can't. russavia (talk) 13:25, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Ha! It's a bit difficult for me to ignore someone who is deleting and interfereing with my own comments and !votes. Are you suggesting that I asked Fae to delete my comment in the discussion ? that I did anything at all to warrant the overwhelmingly hostile stream of attacks on my comments ? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7. I don't think so, and if you can tell me how a person is supposed to stop someone else from deleting and forging and changing and belittling and shuffling their comments, I'd like to hear it.
like the anti-semitic and homophobic attack he made, directed at me. He said I was was making an anti-semitic attack on him, when I didn't even know he was jewish. I knew he was gay, I didn't know, or care, that he was either or both. Everyone knows I wouldn't get 5% of the shit I get if I didn't spend every waking moment always 'defending the little guy' on here. As for his cruel accusations that I'm homophobic, it was my gay colleges that came to my defense saying 'Penyulap is not homophobic' and as for the anti-semite attacks, my Jewish colleages came to my defense saying 'Penyulap is not anti-semitic' as for the accusation that I was homophobic AND anti-semitic, it was my Gay AND Jewish colleages that came to my defense saying 'Penyulap is not homophobic AND anti-semitic'. Which when you think about it is pretty amazing, but that's what you get for defending every minority there is and their right to edit on this project. (Getting the right diff is hard because of all the collapsing at various times in that thread.) It's been said before by other editors, at his second unsuccessful request for adminship that he 'is pathologically drawn to creating controversy and conflict.'. Just how on earth you think I can be any more accommodating and mellow to someone who is in my face deleting my comments I have no idea. Do enlighten me. Penyulap 14:32, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
I'm not looking at old news. But in what you wrote above, you say that you defend the right of minorities to participate on this project without harassment, etc, etc. I think you have just found your common ground with Fae, because I know that he has the same stance. So instead of worrying about past differences, why not try and use that to both of your benefits, and try to find that middle ground. Other than that, I don't want to hear anything else about the past, because then one dwells in it, rather than looking ahead. russavia (talk) 15:21, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
(Edit conflict)In regards for the image use, I'm not suggesting that it IS being used to troll (much right now), I think I may have previously said I thought it a clever way to critique the commons project generally. The way it is used, and what for, and how, will go on for some time, beyond the usage you point out. I don't care. I tried to make proper policy so that offensive images may be removed, but the easiest option for almost all of the projects problems and en.wikis as well is to start over. Less headaches, more sense.
I think the only comment I really had to make *at all* was just that commons is keeping the image. Obviously showing the actual image and the fact that it is, and always will be, on commons is the crux of my point. Your friends 'pathological' need to create controversy and conflict made even such a simple thing difficult. I don't much care about the Bureaucrat thing, I haven't seen any misbehaviour, like MichaelMaggs inventing policies that don't exist without discussing it at the VPP, or anything at all really. I'm like decidedly indifferent, you know, till all that drama happened.

But once again, as you seem to think there is something that I can do, then I ask WTF do you think I can do to be more agreeable to someone who insists on deleting and interfereing with my remarks. HELLO ?? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Seriously Russ, I could put effort into not giving a shit, but condsidering the monumental amount of NOT CARING I am doing right now, it's no small ask to think there is anything more I can do, so TELL ME WHAT THE F I can do, seriously. Because from where I sitting and minding my own damn business and not commenting on anything Fae has to say about anything, there is nothing else a reasonable person can do. Fae is taking the initiative here by interfereing with my remarks which have NOTHING to do with him. Hello ? are you serious ? Penyulap 15:42, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

well, three hours later and I guess there'll never be anything else that can be done, at least not on my part, to improve things.

Hey ! question for you, I was mumbling something elsewhere along the lines of

This artist who paints with his arse, and puts his pecker to good use painting, well good luck for him. Good on him. Everyone should persue their dreams, whether it's to use their naked arse to push a lawnmower, or clean windows, or bake a cake for the church fair, they should put in the eff.... actually, maybe not that last one, but they should all do thier own thing if that makes them happy.

Which begs the question, are there other people out there who use their ass to perform amazing feats ? Plus, how can we get their works, or piccies of their works for our freakshow... I mean for commons. I meant commons. :D Penyulap 19:28, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

File:Atlantic Companion (7892290028).jpg

Hi! I think we collided here. :) I deleted the duplicate and you the original. I restored the orignial (File:Atlantic Companion (7892290028).jpg), even so your reason was uploader's request and you are the uploader. If wrong, let me know. Thanks!   --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:01, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

I've removed the file from Category:Files uploaded by Russavia (delete) as File:Atlantic Companion (7892290028).jpg is the file we have kept, and File:Atlantic Companion.jpg has been deleted. All looks good. BTW, feel free to put any files into Category:Files uploaded by Russavia (delete) if they are non FOP of copyrighted signed, billboards, etc. Statues and buildings should go to DR, and I've been doing a lot of those as a result of various uploads, helping to clean up other categories in the process. Thanks. russavia (talk) 04:41, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Sexual harassment insinuation

I'm on holiday so have just seen your comment about me on your de-crat page, as I waded through the tons of discussion there. See my comment I posted. I expect you to strike yours. Colin (talk) 22:13, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Others from same flickr/uploader?

Thanks for your prompt action at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Kirmit the frog, Charli Delaney (6549488253).jpg! I vaguely remember that these (and the ones in the antecedent Commons:Deletion requests/File:Kirmit the frog (6549491809).jpg) were from the same set uploaded from flickr (pattern of mis-claimed free licensing). Are there any others still on commons that might need to be considered? I'm not an admin here, so I can't see the file-description notes for the now-deleted files, but would be happy to try my hand at searching if you can send me the info. DMacks (talk) 03:38, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

hi there, I'm not too sure if there are others. I am on tablet at the moment, but an easy way might be to search for Kermit+rinaldi or muppets+rinaldi and see what turns up. If you find any feel free to drop the links here and I'll be happy to look at them to save doing the DR process thing. Or at the very least provide my opinion on whether they are allowable or not. Cheers, russavia (talk) 03:48, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Some support

Whether the de-cratrequest will end positive or negative for you, know that I support you & I hope you stay active, no matter what will happen. Trijnsteltalk 11:54, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Trijnstel, I have no plans on deserting this project, regardless of the outcome. This is a great project, but hey, I might find stuff here which will make me head over to nl.wp to do some stuff there :) Thanks for the message, I appreciate it. russavia (talk) 19:16, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Polandball

Polandball at the 2013 Juwenalia krakowskie

Dear Russavia, as you are the fan of Polandball and there are some Poland-balls presented on your page, I would suggest you to verify the apperance of the Flag of Poland. Those you use are of Indonesia or Monaco... Regs, Enzo^ (talk) 06:10, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Enzo, sorry for not replying sooner, but in Polandball the Polish flag is always upside down. You may find pl:Polandball useful reading. And if you like to laugh, perhaps you might like to look at the Polandball subreddit, which has been called the world's most sophisticated subreddit. There's also a Polandball feed at strims.pl. Enjoy! :) Cheers, russavia (talk) 22:10, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Aussie photog

Hi Russavia. Can you take a look at User:Katebranch, File:Kate Branch.JPG and its talk, and User talk:INeverCry#Guidance? I just got online to do a last spambot check and then sign off, so I may not be around to answer further questions till some time tomorrow. INeverCry 04:31, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Hey mate, I've gone ahead and deleted the photo, and I have left Kate a message offering any help/advice which she may need on contributing to Commons. Also, thank you for your support on the other matter, I really do appreciate it :) Cheers, russavia (talk) 05:08, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Her comment about E6 reminds me of the big album of slides I've got in the closet. As for the "other matter", I'm just happy I'm not a bureaucrat, especially the poor soul who has to close. Anyways, you've got plenty of other work to do here if that all goes south. I kind of know how it feels, though my deal on en.wiki went a whole lot faster and easier. ;)

I have a small image-related request for you. Can you upload this if/when you get a chance? We only have 3 of them so far. I can handle cats, etc. INeverCry 17:48, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for getting these uploaded so quickly. I noticed them while patrolling; a much better find than a bunch of copyvios. I've already started on them. INeverCry 19:24, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Hey mate, I've uploaded them to Category:Files from si.robi Flickr stream. When doing the cats, could you also add their name to the description. But I see you've already picked them up.
Re: the other, yep, I saw your unblock of Eric on en.wp, and I was kinda disappointed you resigned like you did, instead of sticking around to fight for the right thing. But then again, I can say there's not much right about that project at the moment, but at least Eric is unblocked. Can I ask you, as someone who is was also a long-term en.wp editor -- did you ever find yourself getting stressed on en.wp because of the toxic atmosphere that has permeated throughout that project, only to change the en for commons and a p for m, and find that your mood would instantly change, and you almost automatically feel more relaxed? Just curious, because it's something that I have long found. Cheers russavia (talk) 21:57, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
I think I'm much better suited for Commons, which is certainly smaller and more relaxed. I was never much of an article writer anyways, so I probably won't be missed too much over there. There's plenty of good people over there though, and I noticed some kind messages when looking at my talk a while back.

In regard to these tennis images, when I'm done categorizing them, etc, I'll take care of the descriptions. There are about 300+ images from the Roland Garros stream, Wimbledon, and today's that need the name in the descriptions, so I'll do them all at the same time. I'm a big tennis fan, so I enjoy working with these. I just wish we had more from this year's Aussie Open. INeverCry 01:02, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Oversight discussion

Can you email me the page we talked about yesterday ? Many Thanks --PierreSelim (talk) 10:20, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Done via IRC. Cheers, russavia (talk) 21:58, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi

Hello Russavia, Can you please tell me if this is required on the image file page (doubt)? Regards--Steinsplitter (talk) 09:19, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Steinsplitter, whilst you are right on the talk page that it is covered in the OTRS ticket, and whilst I think the information you removed was messy, perhaps we can include the information I have now inserted on the image page. Would you possibly be able to translate what I have written into German. Cheers, russavia (talk) 09:37, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you!My English is not the best, translation without warranty the user on the talk page say there are issues if i remove the section--Steinsplitter (talk) 09:46, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
There aren't issues as such, per se, if you remove the information from the file page, because as you note it is covered in the OTRS ticket. But it doesn't hurt to have it as I have formatted it, to make it easy for re-users to be informed about the possible derivative issue. This is a case where I don't think there is any harm to have it there, given it was there before. But formatting it to make it a little less messy is a good thing :) russavia (talk) 09:53, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you!--Steinsplitter (talk) 09:57, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Categories

Read there my concerns about that categorization. By the way, could you have a look at this and similar? There's a group of users that is filling the categories "Players of" with "Former players of" which is has no place, because the scope of Commons is to register who played for a team, not if he's still playing for it or less, plus such categories would need yearly or more frequent updating, whereas "players of" is stated once and forever (of course, you can't modify the fact that one has played for a given club). I guess that we should discuss a guideline that advices not to / prevents from / creating subcategories of such kind. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 15:52, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Sergio, do you mind if I stay out of the "debate" on the Catalonia issue. I think we've reached a point whereby all agree it is likely a legitimate category; how it is further categorised is something that only discussion between editors will fix. I'd like to see a new discussion on the issue; start afresh and keep focussed. If needed, I don't mind offering some input then.
On the "Former" category, I'm not sure how such a guideline would work. I know one area I work in on Commons uses a similar categorisation scheme, such as Category:Airlines of Russia and Category:Defunct airlines of Russia. Should we be getting rid of the "Defunct" categories too in this area of Commons? I'm sure there's more in other topics, but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on that one I just mentioned. russavia (talk) 08:49, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
