  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Over-categorizationEdit

I've been recategorizing a few of your uploads because they were over-categorized. BrokenSphere 18:18, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Basically the guideline is to to place something into the most specific categories possible, e.g. I removed Civic Center from a couple of your city hall uploads because the category San Francisco City Hall is already in the "parent" category Civic Center. The categories function like a tree, so putting something into a "child" category while also placing it in one of the "parents" is redundant. BrokenSphere 19:48, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Category thoughts on NRHPsEdit

Hey! I'm glad you're uploading pics here, and that you're using Commonist (it helps so much). I've been uploading my Florida NRHP pics here for a while, so I know a thing or two about the category system. Here's some that I tend to add where appropriate. I changed them to California, of course. :)

Hope this helps. If you've got any questions, feel free to drop me a line here or on Wikipedia. Cheers! :) -Ebyabe 23:16, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

re:How to request a category deletion?Edit

Hello Sanfranman59, my question to You is, is it likely that someone else spells it like Category:Octagon House, if yes, I would propose to add {{Category redirect|Octagon houses}} if not, it can be deleted.
The deletion request is absolutely ok, as far as I can see, as You might have noticed every day there are requests no one gets to, thus the backlog. ;( For completely misspelled empty categories please use {{speedy|reason}}. Further information You could find here, I hope I could be of help. If You ask me, I would make a category redirect. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 10:51, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi again, yes, I understand it too, that the creation of the category had been a mistake and that the category name is wrong. The question is, is it likely the category could be named just like this by another one again? If so the mentioned template is better, because it will show users where to find the correct cat. What do You think, best regards, (posted something like this in the deletion discussion too to maybe get some input there), best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 22:26, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Image:Lorain-Carnegie Bridge (Cleveland, Ohio).jpgEdit

Hi. I don't know if you saw it, but I left a note for you at Image talk:Lorain-Carnegie Bridge (Cleveland, Ohio).jpg the other day. - EurekaLott 05:38, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

You can replace existing images by clicking the "Upload a new version of this file" link at the bottom of an image page. The Commons FAQ explains the process. - EurekaLott 06:01, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
No worries. Once you've replaced the image, you can tag the other copy with the {{duplicate}} template, and an administrator will delete it for you. - EurekaLott 21:05, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Why the category removal?Edit

[[1]]: seems to me that Category:Buildings in the United States by city is entirely appropriate for Category:Buildings in Oakland, California. Why did you remove it? (I figured I'd ask rather than just revert you.) - Jmabel ! talk 21:43, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Commonist licensesEdit

Dear Sanfranman59,

As you might know Wikimedia is currently migrating from the GFDL to cc-by-sa-3.0. Wikimedia Commons is also migrating and we're down to a few thousand files (started with about 1,8M files). Unfortunatly this number keeps growing because Commonist contains outdated license templates. You appear to be running Commonist, could you please change the following lines in your license.txt? You can also copy a new licenses.txt from here.

{{self2|GFDL|cc-by-sa-2.5,2.0,1.0}} should be changed to {{self|GFDL|Cc-by-sa-3.0,2.5,2.0,1.0}}
{{self2|GFDL|cc-by-2.5}} should be changed to {{self|GFDL|cc-by-3.0}}
{{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} should be changed to {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}}

Can I also fix the images you have already uploaded by adding {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}?

Thank you very much, --MGA73 (talk) 19:22, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your permission to add cc-by-sa-3.0 [2]. I take it that you know that images on commons can be used commercially and therefore someone might make some money of them but you hope they will not and there fore is willing to "take the risk".
Since it make no difference on the money subject if license is cc-by-sa-2.5 or cc-by-sa-3.0 i plan to change the license as you agreed with. If you have changed your mind please let me know. Of course you are also welcome to add "go ahead" below so I can see that you agree :-)
Once again thank you for the images and the permission. --MGA73 (talk) 15:36, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

AutopatrolEdit

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching RecentChanges to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Thank you. –Juliancolton | Talk 16:58, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Boyce catEdit

Why are you removing Category:William D. Boyce? RlevseTalk 21:31, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

File:Meek Mansion (Hayward, CA).JPGEdit

Hello! I just wanted to thank you for uploading File:Meek Mansion (Hayward, CA).JPG. I went to school with a descendant of the Meek family and happened to stumble upon their family history. One thing led to another and I started gathering sources for w:Meek Mansion. While researching on the internet, I came across a link to the photo you had uploaded to Commons, and I was quite shocked! This is the first time I've found a historic home's picture on Commons before I wrote the article. :-) Anyhow, it's a great photo and I wanted to leave you a note saying that it's now in use in an actual article. Thanks again. Killiondude (talk) 07:33, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

I would be very grateful for any photos you have of the carriage house or of the park surrounding the site. It would be a nice addition to the article. I'm planning on submitting it for the "Did you know..." section for display on the main page within the next few days.
I've taken a few photos myself, but I'm by no means even an amateur photographer. I think I've only uploaded two; this one and this one. I have a few more shots from those two sites, and also some from other NRHPs but to be honest I don't think highly enough of them to upload them. I have, however, spent hours searching Flickr and the internet for freely licensed NRHP/CHL pictures relating to Northern California. Flickr user roarofthefour has many from the Bay Area and I've uploaded several from his photostream.
I'm interested in browsing through your photos and seeing if they could be added to corresponding pages on Wikipedia. Thanks for the heads up. :-) Killiondude (talk) 21:15, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the photos! I enjoyed looking at the house from the various sides. I was also somewhat surprised to see how large the carriage house is. It's not too elegant, just larger than I expected (being two stories and all). It's nice to be able to see what one writes about. ;-) I'll incorporate some of those photos in the article in the next few days. Sorry to hear about your computer issues! Luckily you were prepared with your backups. Sad to say I don't backup that often, though stories like that remind me of the importance. Thanks again! Killiondude (talk) 16:48, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

ThanksEdit

Thank you for all of your hard work here at Commons, especially with content relating to NRHP sites, IDs, etc. I have been trying to categorize and upload images (mostly in the Pacific Northwest) and I have seen many of your edits. Keep up the great work! --Another Believer (talk) 16:02, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstarEdit

Many thanks for the photography barnstar. It actually arrived at a time when I was working outside the state limits: to be specific, uploading photos from Sioux City, Iowa. User:Frankie Rae, who's been working to improve our coverage of Sioux City architect William L. Steele (see in particular the excellent article on Hartington City Hall and Auditorium in Hartington, Nebraska), has asked me to try to get specific pictures of some Steele buildings; and if my architectural photos are improving, it's largely due to the suggestions I've been getting.

Happily, I travel a lot through Nebraska anyhow. I'm a birder, and keep lists of all the birds I've seen in each county; that carries me all over the state anyhow, and it's easy to take my camera and my list of NRHP sites with me.

I'll add a note of thanks to you for your work in keeping the state and county NRHP lists up to date. That's got to be a lot more work and a lot less fun than tearing around with a camera; but if you weren't studying NPS releases and plugging things into Excel sheets, I wouldn't know what to photograph. Your efforts are appreciated. Ammodramus (talk) 19:56, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Wheeling Suspension Bridge in Wyoming?Edit

This is obviously an accident; could you go back and add the category that you meant to add? Nyttend (talk) 22:19, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the note; I just wondered if you might have wanted to put another category onto it. Nyttend (talk) 02:16, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

NRHP Nomination PhotoEdit

Hi there. I'm a bit rusty and I can't seem to find the appropriate template for using a photo from this: Merrium Apartments Nom. I have a cropped photo of the face of the building and I was going to get the one that clearly said "Merrium Apartments" with the columns at the entrance, but I want to do it right the first time. A quick perusal of the category from Sacramento on Commons didn't help. Anywho, thanks if you can assist. Killiondude (talk) 07:41, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi K ... I don't know of a template to use for photos that originate in an NRHP nomination form (is that what you're asking?). In fact, I don't think that they would be free use, would they? How does the Sacramento category figure in? --Sanfranman59 (talk) 17:34, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, it was rather late here and I wasn't clear. It was about seeing if the nom form's pictures were public domain, but I now see that they aren't PD. I was mistaken. I brought up the category because I generally look at files in similar situations to grab the license. (I found a discussion here about the PD status, or lack thereof). Thanks for the response anyhow. I'll go looking elsewhere for some PD photos. The building no longer remains so I might just use one as fair use. Killiondude (talk) 19:42, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

File:St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 925 Sacramento St, Vallejo, CA 4-21-2013 1-55-11 PM.JPGEdit

Commons-emblem-issue.svg File:St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 925 Sacramento St, Vallejo, CA 4-21-2013 1-55-11 PM.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
