Sorry, you're on my watchlist but I haven't been around much lately. What's the story with Mp517 editing your userpage - if this is some kind of cross wiki stalking just drop me a hint and I'll give them a warning. Regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 23:16, 31 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi. This is some trolling I think. Never came across this editor before. Regards Sarah777 (talk) 01:47, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, I left a warning - but it's probably a one-time account (hasn't editing anywhere but your pages). Not likely that we'd be seing them again (under that username anyway). Regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 09:04, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Finn. Sarah777 (talk) 10:55, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Sarah777!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Tagging edit

Hello,

The licence is ok, but you have to put the source. For exemple, the information for IMGLaragh 4991w.jpg are limited to "Pub in Laragh Village, County Wicklow, Ireland". It's ok for the description, but the author and the source (own work) are not indicated. Okki (talk) 00:32, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

You can add this template :

Summary
Categorisation of uncategorised images edit

Recently (well, last month - isn't instantaneous communication wonderful ;) ) you asked how to categorise images. The answer is that it's really simple - just find the category you want to put the image in and then add at the bottom of the image (i.e. the same way you categorise an article at Wikipedia). Images should be in the most specific category that applies, and as many that apply.

Finding categories is slightly more difficult, although still easy. I find the best way is to navigate to a highish level category and then traverse the category tree until you find the most specific one that applies. For example, if I wanted to categorise of Dublin I'd go to Category:Dublin and then find the appropriate sub-category, and then look for sub-categories of that, etc. until I found the most specific one that applies.

Commons:Help desk would be my guess for a place to ask if you want a quicker response than the next time I happen to log on to Commons! Thryduulf (talk) 22:55, 17 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content, File:NovemberAtTheSea.JPG, was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. Otherwise, consider an alternative outlet. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

N4/M4 Ireland edit

Hi, Noticed the issue you had on the image for the N4 road in Ireland. I noticed the associated pages for N4 / M4 on Commons and Wikidata are in a mess all entangled together and I'm trying to sort them out. I haven't yet succeeded and you may notice things are a little strange on the linking and I can't get things linked up as I need at the moment. But just in case you think its the little people are trying to send you insane its likely me. Ping me if necessary. -- Deirge Ó Dhaoinebeaga (talk) 16:13, 17 August 2022 (UTC) (You probably know me as Djm-leighpark and I'm indef blocked from all accounts from the English Wikipedia so if anythings to be fixed there I can't do it). Thankyou. Deirge Ó Dhaoinebeaga (talk) 16:13, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I was trying to upload an image from Google maps and I ran into a bureaucratic swamp! Think I solved it. What did you do to earn that badge of honour - a ban from En Wiki? Did you try to make an edit the ruling Anglo caste disliked?! Sarah777 (talk) 17:33, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think I've got things on the M4/N4 sorted. Somehow I missed on the English Wiki that the M4 motorway (Ireland) was redirected to the N4 road (Ireland). It isn't on the Irish Wikipedia, they are separate articles, rightly or wrongly. I've modelled the categories by making Category:M4 motorway (Republic of Ireland) a subcat of N4 road (Ireland) and now each have a separate Wikidata item. (I incorrectly created a new one for the Irish Wikipedia which had a trivial old entry). The foreign language Wikis that are about the the M4 now link to the M4 Wikidata item (& associate commons). So I think I'm now sort of good with regards to the M4/N4. Deirge Ó Dhaoinebeaga (talk) 18:46, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
The ban is for en:WP:CIR and En:WP:Battleground proably mostly per talk pages. Also now there is a sockpuppetry allegation as well. So I'm now on Wikidata, Commons, and :ga only. Your good work does ping up on my watchlists from time to time. If you associate with me you'll possibly be had for meat puppetry as quick as they'd blink. Thankyou. I am wiser now! Sarah777 (talk) 08:16, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I should have spotted that earlier myself but I was obsessed with the relationship between the N4 and M4! You have done some great photographs in the past, I think I particularly remember some good work round the railways south of Dublin, with at least one published in (Winchester, 2014, "Railways of Ireland" , "9781445640396" ) which I had borrowed from Havant library - though I think I recall a lot of that book was a consolidation and duplication of public domain work and effectively unusable from a Wikipedia sourcing viewpoint. Anyway if get your camera out that would be great, and a picture of Bailey and Pim at Dún Laoghaire that would be great ... I was within 100m of it in July with my internet on the phone down and missed it! I am sobbing so much. Thanks. -- Deirge Ó Dhaoinebeaga(a)talk 21:51, 13 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
