There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open! edit

Dear Shadowssettle,

You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked.

In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.

Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 18:05, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

QMUL move edit

Hi.

You recently moved Category:Queen Mary University of London to Category:Queen Mary, University of London. You made a mistake. Unlike other UoL colleges they changed their legal name in 2013 to Queen Mary University of London (without comma). See official sources like the UoL website here, which doesn't use a comma, unlike for other colleges with a comma like Goldsmiths or Royal Holloway here. Also see the HEDD entry here.

I tried to move the category back but it can't be done via a move function as there is a redirect and history at the original name. Please correct your error by nominating the category for speedy renaming. Morris Schaffer (talk) 17:20, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yep, this was a mistake, sorry. There's a lot of mess around many university categories and I assumed it was another mistake Shadowssettle (talk) 17:24, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

Thanks for correcting my errors regarding the name of Category:Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Elshad (talk)

Heraldic Copyright Notice edit

I've used this a couple times, others might find it useful, and it's on my talk page because it's not userpage material:

COM:F1 This non-trivial copyrighted logo is taken from the college, and is thus a clear copyright violation. (The description here also implies it is from there)
This logo is copyrighted because it is a non-trivial artistic design, not simply geometric shapes. Commons doesn't allow for COM:FAIRUSE imagery; if you wish to upload fair use imagery, please do so the relevant Wikipedia, and even then only if it is used there. Images on Commons must instead be free-use. To permit this image on Commons, it either be clearly marked with a Creative Commons-like free use license, or go through the COM:OTRS process.
Although heraldic blazons are not copyright, their renditions are. That means that this particular drawing of the heraldic emblem is not permitted, however, if the blazon (positioning and colouring of items) behind the coat of arms were re-rendered under a free-use license, it may be permitted on Commons. This is detailed under Commons:Coats of arms, which outlines the distinctions.
On Commons, the burden of proof for license COM:EVIDence is on the uploader. That means this image should be deleted, and recreated when the uploader returns with evidence, rather than leaving it until evidence is provided.

Just in case I need this again in the future Shadowssettle (talk) 12:23, 22 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

File:Shield of the University of Nottingham.svg edit

File:Shield of the University of Nottingham.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Coat of Arms / Shield of Loughborough University edit

Hello Shadowssettle,

I am a alumni of Loughborough University. Back in 2011, I was told, by Wikipedia, to upload a coat of arms image of Loughborough University. I did upload the image through scanning the coat of arms from my degree certificate.

As I see that you have contributed to the coat of arms for several universities in UK on Wikipedia. Could you please kindly upload the proper coat of arms image (with all exact colors) for the Loughborough University Wiki page as well ?

Thank you.

Best regards, Niles — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nil pat13

@Nil pat13: Hi there! Unfortunately official depictions of coats of arms are generally under copyright, especially if digital (since they almost need to've been created in the past 70 years), as explained at COM:COA. The coats of arms for the Russel Group universities have been recreated based on the blazon, which is necessarily public domain, so any works thence created may be licensed as the artist wishes (and the limited set of computer colours is also not considered copyright, hence the colour matching). You will notice all of the uploaded coats of arms do not match the official arms precisely, generally trying to stick to more traditional renditions over current simplifications.
This means uploading the coats of arms for Loughborough University would require manually recreating them, as has been done with the other arms. The current set of British university arms uploaded focuses, excluding arms created by alumni and other interested parties, on the Russel Group and the ancient universities. Feel free to use software such as Inkscape to edit one of the many templates available here on Commons, or download one of the other arms already uploaded here and modify it to match Loughborough's blazon. @ Shadowssettle: Thanks for your message. I found following elements of Loughborough University Shield on Wikimedia Common. It needs to be incorporated together to create a Shield of Loughborough University.
