Maria Teresa Luisa di Savoia-Carignano edit

Hello, please don't ask again to rename the file File:Miniatura di Maria Teresa Luisa di Savoia-Carignano, principessa di lamballe, 1770-80 ca..JPG: the request has been refused three times simply because the file has already a correct name. Cheers. --Ruthven (msg) 11:34, 16 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I understand, but I think it's not correct. The person was actually called Maria Teresa Luisa di Savoia-Carignano, she signs M L Tse de Savoye, true, but she's referred by all the sources as "Marie Thérèse Louise de Carignan, princesse de Lamballe" aka "la princesse de Lamballe". Then, she was also princess of Carignano, that's the reason of the two names (see the father's page).
Finally, in the renaming files guidelines it is clearly stated: 1. Files should NOT be renamed only because the new name looks a bit better, which is finally here the case. Cheers, --Ruthven (msg) 13:43, 16 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well, "vaguely related" is not the case here: the guy is the father! Then you say yourself that she signed "Savoie de Carignan", the Piedmont version of the Italian "Savoia-Carignano". I think that it's in the aristocracy habits to keep adding names and titles; even if in this case it justs indicates a branch of the family: there are the Savoia-Carignano, the Savoia-Nemours, the Savoia-Soissons, the just Savoia, etc. --Ruthven (msg) 15:14, 16 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry, but I would like just to remember you that "As a matter of principle it's best to leave all files with generally valid names at their locations, even if slightly better names may exist.". The file has actually a name that is correct and complete and easy enough to localise it. Why do you want to bother to rename it, create redirects, modify its usage in all the other wikipedias, etc.? --Ruthven (msg) 15:35, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
The question is not if it's correct that these people were named in that way, but a small change in the name of the file is useless, and worse, prejudicial for Commons. Our priority is names stability, so we aim at avoiding any no critical file renaming. With that clear in mind, do you still think that renaming that image is fundamental? This is just a detail and there are many more other activities that Commons requires (e.g. categorisation). --Ruthven (msg) 18:17, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
But the fact is that there already is "principessa di lamballe" in the title. So we're fine. Cheers --Ruthven (msg) 18:24, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry that you find the name endless, but it's the way the person was named from what I am reading in articles in Wikipedia. I think that you're not correct saying that the Savoia-Carignano is another branch of the family: it's the branch of Luigi Vittorio, her father, and thus hers. It would be a mistake to name the file otherwise (besides what I told you before about keeping the renamings as few as possible, that maybe you've skipped when reading). For the Savoia-Carignano, check here, here and here if you're not convinced. --Ruthven (msg) 18:47, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Renamings edit

Hi, would you please stop putting the whole history of the people in the requested title? Please only what is necessary. Not more - not less. But titles of the future or past are not of importance. Simply names. Marcus Cyron (talk) 15:47, 26 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Marcus Cyron, as we discussed already. But if you want to add some keywords that you feel important for a file, why don't you use redirect pages? It doesn't require to rename a file, makes things simple, etc. Just don't abuse of it! Otherwise you can always include more information in the description (which is recommended). Cheers, --Ruthven (msg) 22:04, 3 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Marcus. You confuse the file name with its extensive description. Our browser searches both: in names -- and in descriptions of the files, so it is not necessary to rename files. It is enough to write what you want in the description. We have a bug on Commons - some files had disappeared after renaming... Each time I'm renaming a file, -- I'm afraid if it will come succesful. Renaming files is not safe for them.
But I'm writing to you with another businnes :-) If you get the "Author matching Creator template, Creator template not used" hidden category, you should use {{Creator: }} template. And fix the licenses, please. {{PD-Art}} template needs the second license, for example {{PD-Art|PD-old-100}}, {{PD-Art|PD-old-70}}, {{PD-Art|PD-old-auto|deathyear=}}, {{PD-Art|Anonymous-EU}}, {{PD-Art|PD-US-1923}}. That's all.
Have a nice evening :-) Wieralee (talk) 21:58, 29 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I have declined your request: please note that " renaming should be used with caution" (COM:MOVE). And also, please do not blank your user talk page: archive it instead. --Jaqen (talk) 22:04, 3 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

File renaming edit

Your request was declined by Wieralee. Why you ask again for rename? You should discuss it on the relevant talkpage instead of reverting filemover decisions. Best --Steinsplitter (talk) 15:04, 10 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
