Your question edit

Kim, this has nothing to do with arrogance and even less with administrators but with trying to stop the subtle, but no less real, harassment of a user. After several years my patience has run out and I'd rather not be stalked. Those "questions" are irrelevant aa the answers are known. Lycaon (talk) 06:01, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kim first I'd like to thank you for bringing up the issue about administrator Lycaon removing my message from his talk page. Now I believe I should respond to Lycaon accusations here at your talk page because he made it here. Let's first talk about "several years". I have been on and off Commons since April of 2007, so all together just a little bit over 2 years. In order for him to claim "several years" of "subtle, but no less real, harassment " I guess I should have started "harassing" Lycaon as soon as I came and have continued "harassing" him ever since :)
I literally cannot sleep (It is 3 a.m. and I am writing this message) trying to figure out what was these "subtle, but no less real, harassment " . Here's the list I came up with maybe not in chronological order:
"Harassment" number 1": I believe it was here. Somebody else, but me nominated one of my images to QI, and after the image was moved to Consensual review and supported by somebody else, but me and the nominator, I've decided just for fun to support it too, and what a "fun" it was. Not only Lycaon crossed out my support vote, but he even told me that it was "unethical" of me to support my own image on QI. After this I showed him that it might be even more "unethical" to support his own image on FP also. It is when, Lycaon became really mad at me. Not only he crossed out my oppose vote for the same nomination, but he also told me to " stop playing the murdered innocence" . I have been puzzled ever since trying to figure out what he meant. So I asked Tony here. Looks like Tony is also " playing the murdered innocence" :)
"Harassment" number 2: I am very sure it was on this VI nomination, which I supported (What a harassment), but was silly enough to ask questions, that were so "harassing" that they never got answered.
"Harassment" number 3: I guess it was, when I asked 2 questions about his orchid QI nominations. I love orchids, I saw my first orchid, when I came to USA, and could not get enough of them ever since. Who could have thought that my questions are "harassing" Lycaon ,but apparently they were. Not only he never responded them, but he withdrawn his QI together with my questions. And it is the end of my list of "several years" of "subtle, but no less real, harassment ". I cannot think about anything else. I tried to have Lycaon to explain himself, but so far I only was able to understand that he does not want me to call him Dear Lycaon ( another "harassment" I guess :)) and also I got this in Latin. :) Sorry for such a long message, Kim. I'm writing it mostly for myself. Maybe I will be able to sleep better :) Best wishes.--Mbz1 (talk) 11:11, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you

Thank you for voting on my request for adminship. The result was unanimously in support, which really surprised and overwhelmed me. I'll do everything I can to make sure that it was justified.

Long image name edit

Thanks for confirming the rename on File:Arriva bus 4767 VDL SB250 Wright Pulsar Gemini YJ56 KFA Turn up and Go branding in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire 25 April 2009.jpg. I know it is a very long file name, and it is because a user has been uploading various images with these names. This one was wrong, and, while I disagree with having such long file names, I couldn't be bothered to dispute it, so just requested a correct name. When you have to use the files, the names clutter everything up - but it's a bit late to do anything now! Arriva436talk/contribs 21:02, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for yhour message. OK, I considered for a short while to shorten the file name but decided not to bother. It took me a while to actually notice the difference between the two file names, but your reason was clear. I am very new in this "conforming renames", so I am proceeding with care and asking on IRC when in doubt. --Slaunger (talk) 21:05, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK thanks. It was only a small difference, but in bus terms it means quite a lot! Arriva436talk/contribs 21:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yeah being a single or double-decker is a significant difference, so it was definitely warranted as the existing file name was misleading. --Slaunger (talk) 21:16, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Occasionally reviewing edit

Well, I have dabbled with VI candidates, and reviewed an MVR pair (without actually voting :-). As I expected much time required, especially when I wander off following threads, and poking about in categories, and finding all the similar files that haven't been categorised or labeled properly. Then doing some googling and wikipedia research to find out what an image of the particular "scope" should show us. You might be suprised by the number of Stone Rows/Alignments that we have photos of, how many not very useful photos of "Sonchus oleraceus" we have and how dis-inclined I am to review images nominated by their creator (if someone else has nominated an image, they might have bothered to critically review the other options available :-). --Tony Wills (talk) 10:53, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

He, he. Yes it is time-consuming, but also quite interesting and rewarding at times as it gives you the possibility to acquint yourself with knowledge domains you would otherwise not have known even existed. Anyway, I hope you will drop by COM:VIC again for another occasional review or two. --Slaunger (talk) 20:30, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re edit

You may need to update the practising users and affected files

Yeah. With the other users you have mentioned, I suppose? Will do. It is a little time-consuming to unravel the template use.--Slaunger (talk) 18:09, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK, now? --Slaunger (talk) 19:12, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jean-Pol,

I certainly think we can figure out something, but I suggest we wait until we have reached Community concensus on the matter such that we can correlate a change of your user template with a bot-assisted explicit addition of adequate licenses on your file pages such that we keep a license on all your images at all times. Can I interpret your message as an acceptance to extract the license template from your user template and place it explicitly on file pages instead? If that is the case I will add a note about your acceptance in my post. --Slaunger (talk) 20:14, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, if you can extract the previous licence and put the licence

OK. Great, Jean-Pol. It is not something I can do though, but I am sure we can pursuade a bot operator to do that. I will look into that.--Slaunger (talk) 20:37, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Good evening Slaunger,

Coming back from holiday, I have just seen now your last message. So I fully agree with your suggestion.

Cheers, --Jean-Pol GRANDMONT (talk) 20:36, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Maybe edit

Kim, may I please ask you, if you ever to receive that mysteriously disappearing e-mail, please put at least some hints from it at my talk page. Of course I am not asking you to put there the whole contest of the private e-mail, just some hints (I like to solve the puzzles)  , if of course you feel comfortable doing so. I have absolutely nothing to hide, and I'd rather everything will be opened for everybody to see. I strongly believe that the accused user should at least have the right to know what wrong she's done, if for nothing else at least do not repeat the same "mistakes" in the feature. I'm not sure I have the right to ask you for this favor. Please ignore the message, if you believe I do not. I will understand. Best wishes. --Mbz1 (talk) 11:23, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi mila, when you and I write in private (as we have done quite often recently, and which I enjoy) I do not provide a summary in public to others, nor do I expect you would do unless I had given my explicit permission to publish a text in an e-mail as GFDL. The same of course applies when I communicate with someone else in private, and for good reasons. In private messages you may reveal personal details, which you do not want to be exposed in public, and it is also a chance to have a dialogue which may sometimes be more sincere, informal and open as compared to doing it in public. It is also often a path to resolve possible misunderstandings in private. Of course it a balance, when dealing with community matters, and things related to decisions on the community should IMO be done on public talk pages only. Best wishes, --Slaunger (talk) 17:02, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
