How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Dateilöschung

Ich habe im Dezember 2021 drei Dateien zu Löschung vorgeschlagen (Parteiwerbung). Nach einiger Zeit wurde diese auch gelöscht. Nun sind bei mir in der Bearbeitungszusammenfassung 3 gelöschte Seiten vorhanden. Warum werden die bei mir gezählt und nicht beim Hochlader der Dateien. Rotating TIF

Hi is it correct that TIFF files can't be rotated by this bot? The reason says "Deze afbeelding kan niet automatisch gedraaid worden door SteinsplitterBot" and "Reason: filetype not supported (iff)". Since "iff" is not a known filetype to me but sounds like part of "tiff", I wanted to check in to see if the impossibility is just because of a typo somewhere in the code. ty Peli (talk) 14:45, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Delinquent

Hello again! Someone have changed Delinker's password (about 23rd january). I will try to figure out who and how, but in the meantime do you have any ide what email may have the bot set, where the recovery could be performed? --grin ✎ 19:53, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

This is strange - i haven't changed the PW, likely something with bot password has changed. There is the mail from one of my labs account set (it was recovered years ago after the old operator went inactive). Will thy to figure out whats going on, one sec. The password is always the same: Group: General, Title: Delinquent, Password: *, Creation Time: 02.03.2017 19:53:45, Last Modification Time: 02.03.2017 19:53:45. Bot stuck?

Category:Media needing categories as of 15 December 2021

Hello Steinsplitter,

SteinsplitterBot has marked a large number of images as needing categories in 15 December 2021 when they are already in Category:NARA TIF images with categorized JPGs, not a hidden category as the bot seems to think. Can this be fixed? (It is resulting in users erroneous adding categories to the TIF files.)

The same problem has also occurred in Category:LC TIF images with categorized JPGs, as shown on User talk:Krok6kola#Misplaced images from the Library of Congress in a NARA category. I recommend that you remove the mark {{Uncategorized}} from all files in these two categories. --NearEMPTiness (talk) 19:35, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

@Krok6kola: The bot was right, the category used to be hidden until 29 December. It may still make sense to remove the tags, but it’s not the bot’s fault, and you may get faster response at Commons:Bots/Work requests. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 23:49, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

@Tacsipacsi: , I know, the hiding was removed by User:Pi.1415926535 on my account because I was categorizing too many TIF files. But there is no way to get those files out that I know of, except one by one. Meanwhile users add categories because they think they are not categorized, and I am so very tired of dealing with it! Just reverting, what other users do in good faith, without even leaving a statement in the comments, is not a suitable long-term solution. I am not aware of any discussions or decisions whether these *.tif files should be categorised or not. I assumed good faith and thought that you don’t know about this edit. Otherwise it’s just a plain false claim: the bot thought that it was a hidden category because it indeed was a hidden category at that point. @Tacsipacsi: See my reply to you above: I was quite aware when User:Pi.1415926535 made the category visible. I just wanted to know if there was an easier way of getting the files out because there were 5000 files not categorized 15 December 2021. This discourages users who categorize. (I know, being one of those myself.) Please do not make unwarranted accusations. I have the greatest respect for Steinsplitter and SteinsplitterBot and have expressed that to him previously. Sound Logo

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? Hallo Steini, mir begegnete User:Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason/imglicence; auch eine Art das PD-self zu verkomplizieren. Der User ist seit 03-2019 nicht mehr aktiv, aber am 25-04-2008 wurde diese userpage als angeblich "heavily used" voll protected. Ich habe die 7 transclusions durch direkten Aufruf von PD-self ersetzt, und halte es für das beste hier mit speedy_delete aufzuräumen. Was meinst du? How to fetch list of sysops?

hi! can i ask you how your bot fetches the list for Commons:List of administrators by recent activity? i want to fetch the list myself at a fixed time every month, so that i can compare them month on month to see changes to the sysop team. RZuo (talk) 15:59, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

@RZuo (talk page stalker) this is very late, but are you looking for the list of all admins, or the list of all admins and associated activity information?
