Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Well, the problem is: if these painting are still copyrighted, then these photo need to be deleted because freedom-of-panorama exemption in Hungary ia valid only outdoors. So, it would be in your own interest to try to date these paintings. --Túrelio (talk) 20:16, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Személyeskedő válaszodból arra következtetek, hogy nem vagy tisztában vele, miért nem lehet feltölteni az ilyen képeket a szerző engedélye nélkül se a magyar Wikipédiára, se a Commonsba.

A magyar szerzői jogi törvény 1. §-a szerint

Ez a törvény védi az irodalmi, tudományos és művészeti alkotásokat.
(2) Szerzői jogi védelem alá tartozik - függetlenül attól, hogy e törvény megnevezi-e - az irodalom, a tudomány és a művészet minden alkotása. Ilyen alkotásnak minősül különösen:
...
h) a rajzolás, festés, szobrászat, metszés, kőnyomás útján vagy más hasonló módon létrehozott alkotás és annak terve,
...

Tehát ha lefényképezel egy szobrot, akkor a szerző engedélye nélkül nem hozhatod nyilvánosságra a fényképet, hiába te készítetted azt. Ez alól a következő esetben van kivétel:

68. § (1) A szabadban, nyilvános helyen, állandó jelleggel felállított képzőművészeti, építészeti és iparművészeti alkotás látképe a szerző hozzájárulása és díjazás nélkül elkészíthető és felhasználható.

Ezért van az, hogy a (jellemzően) közterületen látható szobrokról olyan sok kép fent van a Wikipédián, az épületekben találhatókról viszont nagyon kevés. Több olyan ország van (pl. Franciaország, Belgium vagy Ukrajna), ahol nemcsak a közterületi szobrokról, de még az épületekről készített fotókat sem teheted közzé engedély nélkül, ha nem járt még le a védelmi idejük, mert ott nincs panorámaszabadság.

@Regasterios: Szia! A szóban forgó képet egy Derzsi Elekes Andor nevű szerkesztő töltötte fel. Elsőre nem értettem, mi a gond vele, aztán láttam, hogy a szerző. A kép egy korabeli, a 19.század végéről származó 10 darabos képeslap gyűjtemény része, a szerzője nyilvánvalóan nem Móriczné N. Lenke (valahonnan úgy rémlik, hogy Derzsi egyik rokona), ő csak tulajdonolta a képeslapokat. Maga a feltöltött kép így elvileg jogszerűen szerepel a Commonson, a hiba a szerző megjelölésében, félreértelmezésében van. Derzsi az igen terjedelmes leírásban sok fölösleges dolgot írt le, erről annak idején vita is folyt, azonban ő nem vette ezeket figyelembe. A következő mondatban le is írja, hogy ez egy képeslap. Ha a szerzőségre vonatkozó részt törölni lehetne, akkor maradhatna. Szalax (talk) 15:54, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Szia! Én az alapján jelöltem törlésre a képeket, amit Elekes Andor odaírt, az egyes képeknek nem néztem utána. Most viszont megtettem, és szerintem ezeket a képeket tényleg Móriczné N. Lenke készítette, teljes nevén Móricz Istvánné Nagy Lenke. Például a File:Miskolc (5).jpg megtalálható a Hungaricanában, és a hátlapon ez olvasható: „Móriczné N. Lenke felvétele”. A File:Miskolc (8).jpg pedig itt látható, szintén Móriczné a fényképész. Szóval ezek a képek egyáltalán nem a 19. század végén készültek, hanem inkább a két világháború között. Itt láthatod Móriczné többi miskolci fotóját a Hungaricanában. Az összes talán nincs meg ott, amit Derzsi Elekes feltöltött, nem néztem végig, de mivel ugyanabból a sorozatból valók a képek, nem nagyon lehet kétséges, hogy valóban az összes fényképet Móriczné készítette, aki egyébként hivatásos fényképész volt, és Móricz Zsigmond sógornője. --Regasterios (talk) 16:39, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2022.

Round 2 will end at 18 May 2023, 23:59:59 UTC.
