Bobby Trendy edit

Hi - I did a screen capture from YouTube, where Bobby Trendy released a video of himself talking. If he released it into youtube and is speaking in the first person during the video - would it not be public domain? How do I indicate this? Or, do I need a personal note from Bobby Trendy to say it's ok to upload on here (which is unlikely to happen)? How else can I get a picture of him into his entry?

ESA images edit

Hi Thuresson,

I checked the ESA Copyright Notice. In my understanding, we are using this image for an informational purpose, respecting all the conditions imposed by ESA for public use of its images.

I have seen this same image published in several newspapers and magazines. If I am wrong, please, exply me why we cannnot use it. I am writing other related articles and would be nice to use other ESA images. But, if I cannot use them...

Happy New Year!!

Radera bild edit

Hejsan, Thuresson! May I ask you for favor? Could you please add interwikis between subcategories sv:Kategori:Vitryssland and en:Category:Belarus? I tried to do so, but in some cases upper level categories something by country lack interwikis too, so I was not able to deduce translation. Thank you! --EugeneZelenko 16:59, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your message. I added a few interwikis at the English wikipedia. A few categories available at the Swedish Wikipedia had no English equivalent:
sv:Kategori:Bandy i Vitryssland ("Bandy in Belarus")
sv:Kategori:Vitryska landslag ("National sports teams of Belarus")
sv:Kategori:Vitryska musikalbum ("Music albums of Belarus")

Thank you! As far as I know, no equivalents in Belarusian/Russian Wikipedias.
If you have free time, could you please do the same in subcategories of sv:Kategori:Vitryssar?

Banknotes edit

  • You have contacted me about the images after proposing them for deletion. This is rather discourteous, and unhelpful; a polite message 48 hours before that would have been better. However, I do not dispute the issues, but I would like further information; therefore, a reply would be appreciated.

1: You complain that neither the engraver nor the Central Banks have released the bills/notes under GFDL.

Perhaps so, but these notes are no longer legal tender in their countries, having been replaced by the euro. The former notes cannot be exchanged except under strict conditions. I am not trying to mitigate the breach of use of any image, but I do not expect that the use of a former currency constitutes a breach of GFDL.
Also, I am creating the image myself, and therefore as creator of the image I am making them available under GFDL. I notice that some self-scanned images are not permitted. Does this apply to 'everyday items' (as per English Wiki)??
If there remain questions about the validity of scanned banknote images, can you direct me to discussion pages about banknotes/copyright issues involving banknotes in other countries, so I can learn from this experience??

2: If the images remain copyrighted, I am prepared to write to, and ask the banks for permission to reproduce these images.

In this case, are you prepared to accept the written consent?? I am not sure how you can verify the copyright and reproduction status of notes, except through other public media, such as official web-sites. It would take some time to contact institutions individually; does Commons have resources to do that?? Some other Wiki projects do this.

3: I notice that some of the issues are already available from flickr.com/ . Commons already allows the upload of flickr images.

If I upload my images to flickr, does this mean they will be allowed to remain??

Meanwhile, I would appreciate if you could withdraw the deletion request for 48 hours, to allow me to undertake further research.

I hope you will reply soon. (RM21 21:43, 3 March 2007 (UTC))Reply

Thank you for your message. A large number of images of bills from different countries have been nominated for deletion at Commons:Deletion requests. I suggest you leave any comments you might have there. I dispute that you own the copyright have permission to publish the images in question and I claim that the fact that these bills are not legal tender is irrelevant. It would be very helpful if you had the opportunity to contact the banks and ask their permission for unrestricted reproduction (free use by anybody for any purpose). Thuresson 22:01, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for replying. Nevertheless, I would still like to know whether any images on flickr are acceptable for use on Commons, or only on the same terms as above. (RM21 16:19, 4 March 2007 (UTC))Reply
All images on WikiCommons must be made available by the copyright owner for free use by anybody. Some images at Flickr meet those requirements, some do not not. Some of these images can be seen at Category:Flickr. Thuresson 16:59, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deletion requests/Image:Hungarians atop stalin boots 1956.jpg edit

Hello Thuresson, Please consider reinstating the image as the source page[2] states that the images are in the public domain:

"* Note: AHF believes that all pictures shown below are in the public domain, if there are any issues please contact us to discuss." (top left column, third paragraph)

The copyright statement at the bottom of the page is thus clearly for the webpage itself and not the images which are intended for commemorating the 1956 Hungarian Revolution (and they even link to the Wikipedia article!) Thanks in advance. Istvan 00:04, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hungarian revolution picture edit

Hello Thuresson, I just noticed that the picture File:Hungarians atop stalin boots 1956.jpg was deleted because of copyright issues. I'm afraid there was a misunderstanding, which I would have clarified if I had known about the debate in time. It is the website of the American Hungarian Federation which is copyrighted, not the images in their 1956 gallery. Indeed, this very issue came up back in October as we were readying the 1956 article for main page status, and after some debates with the Commons, we contacted some people from the American Hungarian Federation directly and got a very clear answer that all the pictures we uploaded are public domain and we have complete permission to use them. I realize it's too late to save the Stalin-boots picture, but I wanted to tell you anyway in case there is ever any debate about our other 1956 revolution photos. K. Marblebilder edit

Hej,

MVH Cxxxxxx Valbo.

Copyvio tag on Image:Frankfurtnight.JPG edit

Hi Thuresson, I've seen that you tagged the Image:Frankfurtnight.JPG for speedy deletion due to missing author credit. I'm not the uploader; but when I came across today morning I also noticed the missing name. I followed the existing link to the article about Frankfurt on :en that contains this image and from there to the real image description page where the author is named. As I hadn't the time (and nerve) to complete all the missing description data, I only added a link to the original description page ([3]). With the data contained therein the description on Commons should be completed and everything would be fine IMHO. -- Túrelio 20:16, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message. Still, the license requires that the author is credited. This photo can be deleted from English Wikipedia at any time and then the author's name would be gone. Thuresson 20:20, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've completed the description. Take a look please if it's o.k. for such a transferred image. But there is another real problem, the original image was licensed under cc-by-sa-2.5, not GDFL. -- Túrelio 20:29, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thuresson,
after DragonFire1024 corrected the license type, IMHO everything is o.k. If you agree, could you then remove the speedy tag. Thank you. -- Túrelio 20:37, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Hercules-Kermanshah.jpg - Missing source-indications edit

Hi Thuersson, it seems that missing source-indications are being named for your proposal of erasing this picture from Wiki-Commons. I guess that only the person actually having uploaded the picture will be able to give you this kind of information. However, this picture only shows a "common cultural good", exposed in "free landscape", that could be photographed and uploaded in Wiki almost by anyone. So I don't really see your point there. But, since you brought up the issue, please tell me, how to get and supply for the missing information you need. With regards, J Safa 10:01, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Why are photos still tagged. edit

Hi,

I have written permissions for most of the tagged photos. Could you please remove the tags for the following photos whose permissions I have already sent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org.

By the way is there any non-commercial license that is compatible with commons. thanks - Marmoulak 08:35, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Vickers IWW.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image:Canon T90 front detail.jpg edit

I have forwarded the permission emails I received to the otrs queue and in addition asked the photographer to send a permission email himself, if he can. Any chance that the image can be removed from speedy-able for a reasonable length of time to get that process completed?

(btw, I think that only allowing a week for an image that's been here from a long time and uploaded by someone who's a commons admin is a bit short - I don't log into commons every week, and it'd be quite easy to miss such a notice).

Bobbejaan(land) images edit

Hello Thuresson. Here an update and question about all these images you want to delete: http://tools.wikimedia.de/~daniel/WikiSense/Gallery.php?wikifam=commons.wikimedia.org&wikilang=en&order=-img_timestamp&img_user_text=Peeper&max=25&ofs=0&max=50 All images are taken/placed or uploaded under authority / by order by the license holder. We "Bobbejaan Records" deceided to place some images from the official Bobbejaan Schoepen Archive on Wikipedia. Not in every case the photographer is known. Mostly it was someone of the family who took the picture, or someone else in order of us: we are always license holder. I left a possibility for verification behind each photograph: info at bobbejaan dot be. Also I contacted permissions commons at wikimedia for verification. On the gallery (link above), there are photographs marked as "orphan", which is strange for images with undiscussible authorship. Peeper 22:19, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the speedy delete edit

On the Feist image. I gotta say, I was frustrated to realize that (1) there was no way for me to use the photo in Wikipedia and (2) no way to re-name or delete the photo...unless I'm wrong? --Padraic 22:00, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the tip. I notice you uploaded the larger version of the file; this makes sense, but what should I do in the future if I want to use a cropped version? --Padraic 22:06, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I didn't realize your version was cropped until now. On the image description page, you can click on "Rev" to the left of upload date and your user name. This will instantly revert the image to "your" version. Thuresson 22:15, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re. Image:Apple Claes Oldenburg.JPG edit

Please don't delete templates without a reason or a discussion. This image was kept, after a debate, under the FOP provision. Other images by the some author were deleted because FOP was not in the books in the countries where they are on display. If you don't understand what templates mean, before acting just ask: we shall be delighted to inform you about rules. Thank you in advance. --User:G.dallorto 13:41, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your offer of introducing me to templates is hilarious. There is no need for disclaimers such as Template:FOP when there is Commons:General disclaimer. I don't have to discuss before I remove the template if I see it. Thuresson 16:36, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

SVG edit

Hej Thuresson!

mvh Gunnar Larsson 21:01, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thuresson 21:23, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

/Lokal_Profil 16:37, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

WikiCommons is a repository for photos and images that have a "free license", such as public domain, GFDL, Creative Commons or a similar license. The album covers you uploaded do not have a free license. At English Wikipedia they are used under the fair use provision in US copyright law, see en:Image:Trouble - Manic Frustration.jpg. Dino bilder edit

Gigantosaurus

Mvh Cejang 15:03, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, sorry for the delay in answering about Sweden maps. I did not know about demis.nl, but it is very unclear to me how I am supposed to obtain the map. Should I use their software and then take screenshots? Or is there a way to request some maps from them? What I need is a reasonably detailed map of the area between Kiruna and Storuman, and I couldn't find anything satisfactory so far. Thanks for your help. --Nattfodd 07:46, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message. You can go to www.demis.nl and zoom in and out on the map until you find a map you think is useful and then take a screenshot. If you need larger maps you can combine several screenshots by using a image processor like GIMP, Paintshop etc. It is my understanding that maps from the web interface are not protected by copyright. See Image:Map of Öresund between Denmark and Sweden - no text.png for an example. Thuresson 22:24, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Albert_Edelfelt_-_Sven_Duva.jpg.

If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. This is obviously a mistake on your part. This is by the Finnish artist Albert Edelfeldt and the image description page is quite clear about that. Thuresson 14:22, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Way back, you deleted this image that I'd uploaded - probably because I couldn't specify the origins correctly. Anyhow, now someone else on Wikipedia has the necessary information (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Scooter_Libby.jpg). Would you care the reinstall the picture, as I believe it carries the high-resolution data. --Lipothymia 01:41, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. Images deleted 2005 can not be undeleted. The photo is available on WikiCommons at Image:Scooter Libby.jpg. Thuresson 03:59, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Torsten_Jovinge_Kvarteret_Bergsund_1931.jpg edit

Image deletion warning Image:Torsten_Jovinge_Kvarteret_Bergsund_1931.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Deletion of File:Mlblogo.jpg edit

Hey I uploaded this image from an imaged that I pulled from wikipedia. For some reason the image that appears in an english article will not appear in a spanish one that i'm trying to edit. Although the image is protected by copyrights from mlb it falls under wikipedia's fair use policy because:

  1. It's essentially represents the company in an educational way.
  2. The image is highly representative of said company.
  3. It is a low res production so it can't possibly be used for piracy.
  4. The logo is not used in such a way that a reader would be confused into believing that the article is written or authorized by the owner of the logo.
  5. It is not replaceable with an uncopyrighted or freely copyrighted image of comparable educational value.

Can you please undelete it?Jkmerc (talk) 08:20, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
