Recent uploads, athletics files

edit

Hello, Urbansmash. The following files were published some time ago on other websites, with no indication that they were made available under a free licence. This almost always means they cannot be used on Wikimedia Commons. In particular, "own work" means "I took this photo myself", not "I copied this from somewhere and uploaded it myself".

I'm afraid I'm finding it difficult to believe that you are the copyright holder for these images. Please either clarify that you really are or request their deletion yourself by adding {{SD|F1}} to the top of the file. I will leave this a while for you to respond, otherwise I will do that myself. (A deleted image can be restored if you provide suitable copyright and permission evidence, please see Commons:OTRS.) --Mirokado (talk) 21:41, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Mirokadol. The images were provided to me for use by the athlete's management. I believed these were in the public domain with permission to use by the athlete. If this is not the case please advise.

Thanks for the response. It's clear that you uploaded these files in good faith, but you will need to clarify their license status before they can appear here. Commons is much stricter than most user-driven websites, since we aim to provide images which anyone really can use without any legal problems.
I have removed the image from en:Amy Harris-Willock which will fix the problem of the image appearing on Wikipedia mirror sites. I will now see if I can find out what to suggest about the images here. More later. --Mirokado (talk) 17:37, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Next step! Clearly these files are not your own work and you are not the copyright holder, so I will remove those templates. That leaves the files unlicensed, so I will add {{No license since}}, which has details of what to do next. That unfortunately gives us (you!) only seven days to sort the license out, which I suspect will not be possible over Christmas. If the files are deleted and you then sort out the necessary permission, they can be restored, so please don't panic. I will also look a bit further into the details of Commons:OTRS and post again with anything useful I can suggest. --Mirokado (talk) 17:56, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Amy Harris (long jumper).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Notification about possible deletion

edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
