Deletion of image for January 6 cover edit
I'm confused and would like some clarification so that I don't make the same mistake in the future. For the January 6.png photo (since deleted), how would it not be considered public domain if it were included in the government's own publication of the report? Is there a notice I missed in the actual publication which stated that the photo was not, in the specific way it was used on the cover of the report, a work product of the federal government? I've noticed the same issue with photos used inside the report and I'm honestly... well, confused. Love contributing to Wikimedia and would hate to be blocked for unwittingly violating policy. Regardless, I apologize; it was not my intent to infringe on anyone's copyright.

- The problem was that the photo used in the cover was cropped from a stock photo (which requires a license to use). The report itself is public domain but the individual images used inside it may not be. The committee likely purchased a license to use the non-free images in the report but that doesn't give Wikimedia the right to re-host them.
- For the January 6th report here are some guidelines:
- Getty Images - against Wikisource and Commons copyright policy, replace with {{image removed}}
- House Creative Services - public domain as a work of Congress
- National Archives (NARA) - these are taken by the Whitehouse photographer making them public domain
- Original graphics such as File:January 6 Committee Final Report (2022-12-22) - photograph - page 42.jpg or File:January 6 Committee Final Report - graphic - page 211.jpg - public domain as a work of Congress
- I hope this helps Vozul (talk) 16:28, 11 March 2023 (UTC)
