Goodies, tips and tricks
 • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
 • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
 • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
 • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
 • To link to an image page, write this: :Image:Foo.jpg, it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
 • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
 • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: Correct name

PS: schöne Fotos hast Du in Deiner Galerie. Ich schließe mich User:Überraschungsbilder an. Botaurus

Hello, Willow!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Licenses edit

Dear Willow,

As you might know Wikimedia is currently migrating from the GFDL to cc-by-sa-3.0. Wikimedia Commons is also migrating and we're down to less than 2500 files (started with about 1,8M files). Unfortunatly this number keeps growing because Commonist contains outdated license templates. You appear to be running Commonist, could you please change the following lines in your license.txt? You can also copy a new licenses.txt from here.

GFDL should be changed to GFDL
GFDL should be changed to GFDL
cc-by-sa-2.5 should be changed to cc-by-sa-3.0

Can I also fix the images you have already uploaded by adding ?

Thank you very much,

--MGA73 (talk) 17:36, 11 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please add the license. By the way: Can you delete the Image "LK Marburg-Biedenkopf - 16812.jpg"? I uploaded it with a wrong name. Willow (talk) 09:12, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. Should be done now. I also deleted file:LK Marburg-Biedenkopf - 16812.jpg. An other time just upload the file again with the correct name and add correct name on the file that should be deleted. --MGA73 (talk) 13:30, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Permission for Image Use edit

Dear Willow,

I'm working with the New England Wild Flower Society (NEWFS), a nonprofit conservation group in Framingham, Massachusetts, USA, to put together a comprehensive online resource for the flora of New England, called Go Botany!. The National Science Foundation (NSF) has given us funding to create this detailed online plant identification key for more than 3000 plant species native to New England. The goal of the site is to be the most comprehensive online key available, and it is being created in conjunction with a new printed flora for New England, an historic undertaking that clarifies and re-classifies many species. There will be two versions of the site--one featuring a more simplified key for the general public, and one with a more advanced key for educators and professionals. The overriding goal is to make botany more accessible and interesting to people in order to spark more appreciation for the natural world.

Each species will be accompanied by several images illustrating diagnostic characteristics for that plant--flower, fruit, habit, bark, leaf, winter bud, in the case of woody plants. We have received images from numerous sources but still have significant gaps in the image database. I am working to secure images to illustrate the characters for which we currently have none.

I viewed your Salix purpurea images on Wikipedia and Wikimedia, and we would be very interested in utilizing one in particular--Salix_purpurea_003.jpg--for our project. We realize that the image is governed by a Creative Commons license, but we still need to obtain specific permission for our records. The image, and any others we might find useful would, of course, be credited to you in any way you wish.

I look forward to your reply.

All the best, Tom Warhol Botanical Data Specialist New England Wild Flower Society --Pogopposum 8 February 2012

I agree with the Use of the Image. Willow (talk) 13:02, 30 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I am writing a book on the “green walls technologies” and I have found very interesting some photos in your page. So, I would kindly ask you if I can use them in my book.

Obviously, if you gently decide to grant me the permission, your name (or your nickname) and the link of the pictures will be correctly cited in the credits of my publication.

The 2 photos which I would use are:

--HV (talk) 14:25, 20 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
