Capote edit

Can you provide a year for the photo of Truman Capote? --Finn Bjørklid (talk) 14:57, 28 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have checked this image and we do not have permission for this image at all. We got permission from you in April in 2011 regarding his photographs of others, but not of a self-photo. I have contacted Mr. Mitchell about the image. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 17:25, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I have responded on your talk. X4n6 (talk) 21:09, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

The license is unclear and certainly not "public domain" as you claim. Given your past history lifting an image from the website, we need to properly investigate this copyright status. It may be "OK" for us to use via Fair Use, but I personally doubt that it will pass muster under a truly free CC license. Elizium23 (talk) 04:09, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
"Given (my) past history of lifting an image from the website?" Wow. What a profoundly uncivil and patently false comment to make. You really should check your facts (and your attitude) before you hurl accusations. Now, despite the fact that you have guaranteed that I couldn't care less about your personal opinion, I'll assure that it "passes muster." X4n6 (talk) 04:22, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
See here: "The images below are free use and in the public domain." It couldn't be more clear. So I have removed all your tags. X4n6 (talk) 04:58, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
That's remarkable; the words changed even as I discussed them here on Commons. So I suspect that you may be the photographer or webmaster himself. No worries. Elizium23 (talk) 05:02, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
You have many suspicions. Maybe I'm the Cardinal. But let's deal in facts. What's your basis for restoring the tags? Or are you prepared to remove them now? X4n6 (talk) 05:06, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I owe you an apology, because my suspicions were poorly founded and utterly wrong. I appreciate your effort to upload free media to the project. But I stand by my original statement that the diocesan website's "license" was unclear before its revision. Our copyright policy and the laws of these United States of America are quite clear; we can't risk retaining a work which is not under the proper license. I appreciate that the diocese has corrected their statement to comply with legal regulations and now we have justification for hosting the media under CC0-PD licenses. Thank you again! Elizium23 (talk) 05:34, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I appreciate the apology. I was confident the files were acceptable by our standards. Otherwise, I would not have uploaded them. But anytime someone can acknowledge they were wrong, an angel gets its wings! Cheers. X4n6 (talk) 08:06, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:060219 StAugustineMassGregory.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

The site's Terms of Use make it very clear that the content on the website are not free. Adeletron 3030 (talk) 16:27, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
It would have been useful if you had checked the documentation on the image before deleting it. It would have taken you to this page about these specific images - which could not be more clear that: "The images below are free use and in the public domain."
