Category:Former Dominion Bank Building (The Athenaeum)

English: The former Dominion Bank Building, located at 201 Prince Street at the corner of South Lee Street in the Old Town of Alexandria, Virginia, was built in the Greek Revival style in 1851-1852. The bank closed in 1862, and the building became the Chief Commissary Office of the U.S. Commissary Quartermaster. From 1870 to 1907, it was the First Virginia Bank, and from 1907-1925, it housed a wholesale pharmacy business. The Free Methodist Church of North America took it over in 1925. The Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association bought the building in 1964 to be The Athenaeum, an art gallery and performance space; the building was renovated in 2007. (Source: NVFAA history)
