George O'Malley (1798-1848) may have died while crossing the Atlantic onboard the ship Redwing according to an oral family story. Records show the Redwing arriving in Manhattan from Galway, Ireland on September 13, 1848 with Bridget and George O'Malley onboard. George was listed as a "dealer". There was no mention of his death on the ship manifest. Death records for Manhattan do not begin until 1866.
