Emblem does basically mean the same as coat of arms. It is sort of a synonym to coat of arms. --MaiusGermanicus (talk) 14:03, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Well the term Coat of arms is more in common use at Wikimedia Commons, but I think the term "escutcheon" would be more correct. --MaiusGermanicus (talk) 13:59, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
