Category talk:Indigenous nations of the Americas

What is the difference between this category and "Native Americans". If Native americans means indigenous peoples who occupied the Americas prior to contact with the outside, then why shouldn't these two be collapsed into one category? Most native american tribes I know of include "nation" in the title of their governmental unit. -Mak 21:48, 4 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Indigenous "nations" edit

Not all indigenous peoples of the Americas have national governmental systems, so this category's name is either misleading or limits it from all indigenous peoples in the America to those indigenous groups with national governments. Even under the broad definition of nation, "community of people who share a common territory and government," some ethnic groups are excluded because they do not live together or are not united under one government. I've gone ahead and created Category:Indigenous peoples of the Americas. -Uyvsdi (talk) 00:54, 11 February 2011 (UTC)UyvsdiReply
