Mandate Palestine. Not "Palestine" edit

Moved from User talk:Fastily. Hi! Oops, it seems you've deleted the category without performing the necessary transfer of its resident items to their new destination! :-)) I'd appreciate if you complete it.. Thanks for your work. Orrlingtalk 01:16, 14 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

{(talk page stalker) that is because Chesdovi had just added the category to many images which populated the empty category. Ww2censor (talk) 02:36, 14 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Recreated the category. Hope that helps -FASTILY (TALK) 07:50, 14 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
No, no. You evidently DID NOT UNDERSTAND this matter at all or possibly were confused when approaching it in the first place. Please take the necessary minute now to re-read the original message posted by me here 2 days ago, this matter is very-very simple to grip: I have posted a "Badname"-tag onto this category referring to the correctly-named cat, to where the incorrect one should be evacuated. You - in turn - DELETED the badname-cat BEFORE botting away its populants (- to the goodname-cat), and there LEFT THEM ALL populating a deleted category... :) I then adressed you hereabove with the aim to point your attention at your mistake, and you as a (rather clumsy) respond RESTORED THE BADNAME CATEGORY leaving the items there. So Please, MOVE THE ITEMS now FROM THIS CATEGORY TO THIS ONE, followed by the deletion of the former, thanks in advance. Orrlingtalk 08:38, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Please a) don't assume bad faith and b) refrain from shouting, because neither of these are helping to affirm your position, irrespective of how justified it may be. I recreated the category per Ww2censor's comment on the matter. As can be seen from the discussion between you and Chesdovi, there is obviously a dispute on how these files should be categorized. I am not going to take sides in a matter that belongs at Commons:Categories for discussion, so my recommendation is that someone take it there. -FASTILY (TALK) 17:03, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
oRRLING'S NEW CAT DOES NOT SUFFICE. mANY PEOPLE IN THE CAT WERE OF PALESTINE BEFORE 1917. Chesdovi (talk) 11:19, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Then create Category:Pre-1948 Palestine & its subcats, and certainly do not apply items or subcategories to "Palestine" – a concept WAY TOO CLEARLY inappropriate when it comes to the historic geographical entity. Alluding to the affinity of Jewish-related items to what is nowadays perceived as Palestine is biasing, please stop it! Orrlingtalk 12:25, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
No. On commons, "Palestine" already refers to pre-1948. Things related to Arabs in the WB and Gaza nowadays is under "Palestinian territories". Chesdovi (talk) 14:02, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
No, "On Commons", just like in most discourse outside of this project, Palestine is a present-progressive perception with both political, geographical and national meanings that have changed thru times, - in any place in the media whenever one wishes to make a point about MANDATE Palestine one mentions MANDATE (or MANDATORY) Palestine - you know why this is like that?? I'll tell ya: From the very same reason that today one says World War I and not "The Great War" or "the World War". When you refer readers and users of Wikipedia to an inexistant term like "Jews of Palestine" most of them will be VERY confused, or assume that you mean the Israeli settlers of the today-Palestine. This is simply because nowadays "Palestine" is a term as ambiguous as sh!t. Stop misleading readers. Orrlingtalk 14:30, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Please don't use obscenities. As I said above, that is the current setup on commons. This may or may not be satisfactory due to a number of reasons, but any "confusion" you mention can be simply cleared with a category note, the kind you have left in the recent past. Chesdovi (talk) 14:41, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Trying to adress your plain sense or give you an argumentary hint of how things work on this project renders just repeatedly frustrating, please don't try to divert common-sense laws ignoring universal discourse just to suit your agenda whatever it be. Wikipedia and its Commons file repository are maintained as subject to no agenda other than spreading accurate knowledge to people in the 21st century, Orrlingtalk 14:56, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

There is no need for this unique type of categorising, i.e. "pre-1948". It is misleading: What is "post-1948 Palestine"? Much better just to stick to what we have at present: "Palestine" for all pre-1948 images and "Israel" or "Palestinian territories" for post-1948. Palestine in this case refers to the region as it was known before 1948. If you want to create a category to replace "PT", I suggest "State of Palestine". Unless a majority decision to the contrary, Palestine by itself will continue to refer to the historic region on commons. Chesdovi (talk) 16:39, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
