Opinions
edit- Sorry to ping y'all, but I looked to see who the uploaders were of the 36 files in the astronomy STL category; would any of you be interested in this task? Arlo James Barnes 19:04, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- In principle, yes. Please let me know how you think I can help. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 19:54, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- I have no experience with converting models to STL, but I do believe this project has plenty of merit and look forward to seeing the results. That said, anyone working on this must be cautious about what they upload, as the site does state some models may have copyrights associated. — Huntster (t @ c) 20:14, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- I would like to, but I don't know how to do a mass batch of conversion to STL.--BugWarp (talk) 22:07, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- It's not clear to me what the licence is:
doesn't inspire confidence. If there are no legal issues, I'd be willing to help but don't currently have the bandwidth. I found a free online .ply to .stl converter but it would be a lot of work to convert the 3079 models. ― cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 06:03, 29 February 2024 (UTC)The author intended not to use any copyrighted material for the publication or, if not possible, to indicate the copyright of the respective object. - I believe some of them at least may be lifted from sources such as https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov, but I don't think that accounts for all. Arlo James Barnes 06:41, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/models has pretty impressive models. Perhaps the first phase might be to import those which aren't already in Commons. cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 06:47, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'll track that task in the table below. Arlo James Barnes 20:38, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
