Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: This bot will be restricted to uploading CC "Attribution 3.0 Unported" photos of Buenos Aires, Argentina to Wikimedia Commons. Bot will only edit pages created by User:NonwordBot and User:Nonword. The scope of this bot's responsibilities is intentionally narrow as I'm new to bot-writing. When I'm more comfortable with the platform I may re-register this bot with a more interesting proposal.

Automatic or manually assisted: This bot will run manually while under development (aprox. 2 weeks) but I intend to make it run on a nightly schedule (3am EDT) once completed.

Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Daily. Bot will update metadata and source data as these change locally.

Maximum edit rate (eg edits per minute): Bot will be restricted to editing one page in a 10 second period.

Bot flag requested: (Y/N): Y

Programming language(s): Bot written in PHP on top of BotClasses.php

Discussion

  • Please do a test upload of 10 images and mention it here once it's done/can be reviewed. You should use the account User:Nonword to write here. -- User:Docu at 15:40, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Ran it on ten images: [1]
      • Is this the bot framework or your choice to do the edit in two steps? Ideally the description would be included with the upload. There was one file where the second step went missing.
The file description page should also include categorization, e.g. at least Category:Cementerio de la Recoleta. Ideally the description text is wrapped into language tags ({{en|1=}}). If the date is formatted as 2010-02 it gets internationalized [2]. If you want, you could remove the text added into the permission field as it duplicates the license text [3]. Please double check the initial upload. You might want to do further tests and when you have a series of 10 uploads that satisfies you, ask us to review it. -- User:Docu at 22:11, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • All own work images? You might want to use Commonist instead of the php stuff. Multichill (talk) 15:43, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yes, they're all my own images. Thanks for the tip; Commonist looks like a full-featured app. But I must use PHP on this project.
      • How many images do you plan to upload under this initial project? e.g. 10/100/1000/10000/100000? Depending on the scale, some aspects might need further checking. -- User:Docu at 22:11, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
        • I only have a couple dozen more photos I'm considering uploading initially. I don't have access to them right now to get an exact count. (Aside: I hope I'm not wasting too much of your time; I didn't realize this would require so much human review. This initial project is exploratory; More interesting projects to come. Thanks for the help!) Nonword (talk) 16:34, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
