FUJITSU ScanSnap SV600 is an overhead scanner and is very much appropriate for scanning old books and magazines.
Wikimedia community of West Bengal made a poster for display at Wikimedia India Community Village in Wikimania 2015 organized in Mexico City from July 15, 2015 to July 19, 2015. User:Dineshkumar Ponnusamy was instrumental in formatting and printing the poster, thanks to him. A brief description of the ongoing GLAM project found its place in the middle of the poster and was displayed for international delegates in the said booth.
Lack of good quality open source Bengali OCR is one of the major limitation of this project. It is a tiring and time-consuming process to type every word manually of the pdf files into Unicode version. Thats why, in the statistics, it can be noted that, still now, not a single page has been converted into Unicode due to the fear of burning out and loosing precious man-power. In Wikimania 2015, Bodhisattwa Mandal approached Indian developer Vikas Yaligar to develop an open source Bengali OCR, who insantly got interested into the matter. Works have been started in Tessaract OCR lab to train the software. Things are getting organised when Ravishankar is trying to get together all Indic language community members who are trying to work in this field.
