  •   Comment I don't think it's appropriate to have a Valued image in the scope of an ethnic group, because that inherently means embracing some kind of stereotype. I mean, consider the idea of a "best in scope" for American, Frenchman, Russian, Chinese person - can you imagine that? So would you like to nominate this in a narrower scope, or would you prefer to withdraw the nomination? -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:30, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •   Comment Hi Ikan Kekek I absolutely agree. My intention was to nominate the picture for the genre of music. It seems the category on Commons is conflated between the ethnic group and the music. What should I do? إيان (talk) 16:32, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •   Comment Music is something we hear, so I don't think it's a good scope for a picture. And if you were thinking of "Gnawa musical instruments" as a scope, that's a catchall. Do you think this is the best photo on Commons of someone playing this particular instrument? -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:50, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •   Comment I don't know if we have VIs for "jazz musician" or "samba musician" and somewhat doubt it; rather, we have VIs for scopes of individual musicians (e.g., Ella Fitzgerald) or groups (e.g., Original Dixieland Jass Band). If you think this is the best image in the scope of "Gnawa musician", you could try nominating it in that scope, but I see quite a few pictures of Gnawa musicians and might have trouble figuring out by what criteria I should determine which is best in scop, so that's why I suggested something like "player of [name of instrument (rabat, right?)]". However, you'd then need to link the gallery for the instrument, and we'd have to compare the image with all other images of rabat players to see if it's best in scope. Here at COM:VIC, it's not enough for a photo to be good; it has to be the best in an appropriate scope. Have a look at Commons:Valued image scope for some more information, and let us know if we can be of more help. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:53, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
