  •   Oppose It's not "the Kiss" (and the scope should be in the original language for proper nouns like titles of works of art). This is « Le Baiser » : Category:Auguste Rodin's The Kiss. --Eusebius (talk) 21:15, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    •   Comment It is "Le Baiser". Here is an excerpt from "La Porte de l'enfer" but exactly is the "kiss". Compare "The Penseur" - which has jurisdiction? This   or that one  ? Scope improved. Albertus teolog (talk) 07:54, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Hi Albertus. For most Rodin sculptures, there are several drafts (often in plaster), one original (often in bronze or marble) recognized as such, and several copies, by Rodin or others. The original of Le Penseur is the bronze one situated at the Rodin museum (I'm not even sure we have a photograph of it on Commons), based on the one situated on La Porte de l'Enfer. The original of Le Baiser is the marble one at the Rodin museum, but several bronze copies made by Rodin himself exist in different places. The sculpture on La Porte de l'Enfer is actually an early draft for the final sculpture. Le Baiser was initially supposed to be part of La Porte (I've just learned that, thank you!) but was then replaced by the one you're nominating. There are many copies of La Porte de l'Enfer, and I don't know whether there is a true original or not (the work is unfinished and all existing copies were made after Rodin's death). I think "La Porte de l'Enfer (Rodin)" would be a nice scope, but it calls for a picture of the whole gate. It seems to me that Le Baiser or Le Penseur became independent works of art only once extracted (and considered as such by Rodin) from their "container" sculpture. In conclusion, when you say Le Penseur or Le Baiser, people never think about the Gate, only about the independent sculptures. And this one is definitely not Le Baiser. It is the same subject and the same characters, but Rodin changed his mind about it and did not include Le Baiser in the Gate. --Eusebius (talk) 08:59, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
