Foreign language letters with diacritical marks usually display as unreadable symbols. When I click the hotlink the string of gibberish gives no image. But if I paste a piece of the long filename that contains no diacritic marks, then sometimes the search box can find the JPG source image. Can we please have filenames that contain only ASCII letter and numbers so the joy of Image of the Day will function for all users, not just the people whose PC is set to the language of the narrative JPG file name? :) That's not so stupid. But you're better off using the RSS feed or some 'wget' trick for that. It would just be a big waste of bandwidth to mail out an image each day, to hundreds (now over 200, and only young) subscribers. Some of these images are like 5 or 8mb. I recieved todays daily-image mail 20 times. how can i stop this?

Same problem, The service was working very well in the past, then there was an interruption of almost 4 months, then, quite recently it started again, and -finally and unfortunately- few days ago, I started not to receive the mails anymore.

Image in email

Hi. I like Wikimedia's daily image but I'd like it much more if the image was shown right away in my email (i.e. without having to click the link). Is there such a mailing list available? You can access the picture-version of the Picture of the Day via RSS. If you really want it as email, I suggest you take one of these RSS links and use a "RSS to email" converter service. Mailing list stuck at image of Jan 22, 2012

No Images in a Week

I joined this mailing list in December and was happily recieving images until about a week ago, when they stopped appearing in my mailbox. Also having this problem. As of 26 Feb 2014 I have not received a wikimedia image since 25 Jan 2014. I tried to subscribe again but only received a no-reply email that I was already subscribed (as I am). Messages are not going to spam. EDIT 27 Feb: I just received my first email in a month. I suppose it is fixed now?

Missing Daily Image Notifications

I signed up many months ago for the Daily Image but received nothing. I tried to sign up again a few weeks ago and was told my address was already on the list.... I tried signing up using another address (Gmail this time) and at least got an automated response asking me to confirm that I wanted the daily notification. I followed this up to confirm. Since then - NOTHING. I've checked the Gmail spam folder but nothing from this list is shown there.

I was surprised to see how few folk had actually signed up for this service - maybe there are many like me who have tried and who fall by the wayside?

Freue mich ueber die sehr unterschiedlichen Bilder jeden Tag. Freue mich auch ueber die Beschreibungen in unterschiedlichen Sprachen jeden Tag. Vermisse oft die Beschreibung in Deutsch, lese dann die Beschreibung in Englisch oder Spanisch. Manchmal bin ich voellig verwundert, wenn die Beschreibung in Deutsch UND Schweizer-Deutsch erscheint. Ich finde das voellig ueberfluessig, weil sie immer gleichlautend waren. Wer kontrolliert und entscheidet das?
